Melba on the eggs; Chief sampling the “Game Bird Starter 30% Protein” ration

I'm back again on new updates of new babies. The babies under my white mandarin duck hen hatched this morning, and my shipment of baby chicks came in this morning as well! 3 partridge silkies, 5 buff silkies, 2 black silkies, 1 blue silkie, 1 red silkie, 3 red frizzle cochins, 3 silver sebrights, and 2 golden neck duccles. The chicks came a day early and I was NOT ready so their brooder is pretty rushed.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!! They are all soooo stinking cute!

Hi all! First time hatcher. Chicken eggs on day 14. There are two that don't have any veins and look like a dark blob. I'm assuming there are done. Thoughts?

I can see veins and movement on the others.

Welcome to the hatch-along!

Yeah, those eggs look like blanks/early quitters to me. At day 14 you should be having major development.

Thanks for the reply! That's what I thought and I've taken them out. I started with 6 and down to 2. Really hoping these last two babies make it
Sorry you had so many losses. What kind of incubator are you running? Do you have separate thermometer and hygrometer?

I'm using a Janoel 18S and yes separate thermometer (temp 38 and humidity around 55)

One never started developing and another stoped in the first couple of days. Not sure what's happening. Its all a new learning experience

My first attempt at hatching turned into a total disaster. I still have issues with my incubator but can't afford another one at this time.

Hopefully the two make it! And don't give up, maybe try a few more next time?

Hope it’s OK to join the June Hatch-A-Long? I am not new to chickens but first time incubating. I bought an inexpensive incubator called Smart Bright which has a temperature monitor but nothing for humidity! Retrospect I wish I would have invested more $. I got 12 barnyard mix eggs from a neighbor who has roosters. I set them the eve if 6/6. After the eggs sat for 1 week I got a Govee hygrometer. It has been a nightmare trying to keep humidity what is recommended. When I add water it spikes and stays at 70%! I have no idea what the humidity was the week before the hygrometer was in there 😑. My husband ended up drilling 2 holes in the lid for ventilation as the only vent is a tiny hole at the bottom. Anyway, I did candle day 8 and saw 10 little moving embryos and 2 clear so I guess the high humidity didn’t kill them. I am way more nervous about this than having broodies! so if my math is right probable hatch date is 6/27. Wish me luck, I feel 100% responsible for these little lives already 😬
