Although the 3 fertile eggs started hatchingd on time, I realized by watching my old digital therm that the temps had run nearly degree higher; in addition, I did not have an easy hatch as before at a slightly lower temp. Everyone must "get to know their equipment" & find what temps & humidity works best. I will run my next incubation a 1/2 to 1 degree lower.

As for what you are describing, do you have a fan/forced air or still air incubator? Are you using a glass thermometer in water or a water tube? Yes, with lower temps the hatch seems delayed & with much lower temps so can the development be with poor results. I trust the glass liquid filled thermometers over digitals.

Set some more silkie eggs from another breeder yesterday. 6 gray, 6 splash and 3 buff.

Actually the'll hatch in july. Will post over there.

OMGosh! I woke up this morning to 4 fully fluffed out Orpington chicks but there's still twenty or so to go... I need to just leave them don't I? I didn't know how hard not touching the incubator was going to be!!!

Congrats and yes you need to go someplace so you don't go crazy and it's normal we all still do it after many hatches.....

I have to clean and get their brooder ready so that will keep me busy for a while I just can't believe I they hatched already! all this time my digital therm read low so I thought they weren't going to hatch till tomorrow some still might not hatch till tomorrow how long is it okay to keep the chick in there again?

I try not to open the incubator if there are eggs pipped or zipping...they can stay in there for 3 days...not I am lucky if I let them stay 36 and then I have to help the stragglers out because of the drop in humidity when you open it up so try and wait for a day sometimes your hatch finishes up quick and they are all done by a day or day and a half.

I cant see my hygrometer anymore but I've hear that when the chicks are in there the humidity get cranked up from the chicks themselves s I opened the vent a little more do you think that's okay?
