June Hatch A Long

Pics
I gave the chicks a scrambled egg that I mashed to bits. They're not sure about it. The one I'm worried about gave it a peck or two before going back to bed. His eye seems to bother him a lot (The one that I had to peel the membrane off of. I think it might be sore because a feather came off). He tends to scratch at it or keep it shut. The other eye is mostly fine, I think. He often closes one eye and leaves the other opened.

I offered him a small syringe full of water while he walked around. He poked down half of it and perked right up. Maybe he was dehydrated? He's certainly a troublemaker.

They're often afraid of new snacks but next time you offer it to them they will probably be in a frenzy and chase each other around the brooder with scrambled egg bits, lol. It's the only "treat" I offer my new chicks.

It may help to tap your finger on the food and water to encourage the chicks to eat and drink, like a mother hen would do when showing them.

Also that may explain why the little chick isn't as mobile yet if it's favoring the eye. Chickens actually have crazy vision, the left eye is far sighted and the right eye is near sighted. That's why when a hawk flies over the yard they all tilt their heads in the same direction, they're looking at the hawk with their far sighted eye.

Going to wait until tonight and if we have no further progress by then I will start to assist the ones that are already pipped. Just checked the other two and saw no movement but it was very hard to see since it's very light out right now. The others are still rocking and cheeping but don't seem to be making any progress.

Holding out hope that maybe the duckling in the X marked egg will get out and talk everyone else into hurrying up lol.

I just checked your live feed again and I saw 3 of them moving! I feel like I'm as invested in your hatch as if it were my own now. :pop
Come on duckies! Have any of them made an external pip of their own yet?

:wee

Just keep offering! Any progress is good progress and not a regression right now!!!

Side note: I love this thread thanks for being here everybody!

Chicks and duckies taking a long time are an emotional roller coaster! I feel like we are all in the stands watching RUDY.

Come on baby X!!!!

Just because I said that now the O on the top left is rocking like mad. It's like they can't make up their minds.

lol, Since I've been working on the computer today and flipping back and forth to your live feed, I've seen all of them move but the two bottom right ones. The rest have all taken turns like little jumping beans. Why have I never thought of setting up a camera before?! This is the best! :pop
