June Hatch A Long

Okay, sorry to bother you yet again with questions, but my little guy is still the same as before, but now, his chirps are getting a little urgent sounding, almost like he's whining about something ? I don't want to go poking around though, after earlier. Any advice ? It's been well over 48 hours since the external pip. Do I wait it out ?

At this point I would start helping. It's likely that some of the membrane dried to him and now he can't move around enough to finish hatching, so he's calling for help. Start at the air cell and break away the shell and outer membrane until you can see the inner membrane. Dampen it with warm water or some oil so you can see if the veins are still full, and see if the membrane has glued itself to the poor baby.

You're not a bother at all! The fact that the activity has changed is a good sign that it is getting ready to hatch. The safest way to check is to put some more coconut oil on the remaining membrane to see if there are still blood vessels that need to be absorbed. If it's stuck you may need to gently remove some more of the shell, it sounded like some of the membrane was dried from a previous discussion too so very carefully and sloooowly you may need to remove the part that's stuck to the chick after checking for vessels. Hopefully this will free the duckling up enough to be able to push itself out because I do like for the chick to do the final push out of the shell itself if possible.

Okay, just to be clear, do I start on the bottom part ? Because the air cell part of the egg is already off & I accidentally caused a bleed this morning. Thanks for replying, btw !

If the aircell part is all already gone then you should have enough exposed membrane to just check for blood vessels and see if any membrane has dried and stuck to him.

Congrats! :ya They're so sweet! Your broody is beautiful! So many pretty broodies this month! Makes me want even more chickens. :lau

There is very little membrane left there now, but from what is, it looks as if the veins are like tiny little thin red lines right now. How should I proceed ?

Are you able to see where the membrane is stuck to the chick? It seemed like a large portion of the chick was exposed. You can actually pull back pieces of the shell while leaving the membrane underneath intact. It will give the chick more wiggle room to start pushing itself out and should give you a better idea of what's going on farther down in the egg as well.
If @LilyD is around she's our duckling master.
