June Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Well... I didn't. She went broody right before we left to go camping and my farm sitter (my mom) wasn't chicken knowledgeable, so I didn't want to separate them. She ended up sitting on like 20 eggs, eventually I think she just refused to let them lay in her box anymore and they finally went to the other ones. She hatched 5, I finished out hatching another 9 in the house once she evacuated and the remaining duds after that got tossed. It was less than ideal, but all my girls insist on sharing one box and it was a cluster since we were gone.
I’m going to mark the eggs I think. She’s a major jerk 😂 she will flip a lid if I try to move her so I’m not going to. I want her to hatch eggs. She’s the cutest chicken even and my favorite in the flock. I’ll just leave her and remove the other of they bug her. I’m sure she will flip a lid on them too and they’ll go elsewhere.

I will be hatching some Olive Eggers (again) and one barnyard mix. The OE were really for my husband’s friend and now he said he doesn’t need them 🤦‍♀️ I didn’t care for the money, I just didn’t care to take care of anymore chicks 😂
Sell them if you don’t want them. CL is a great place to advertise

Candling today (day 9)- of 12 shipped Pekin/Cochin Bantam eggs 6 look good, 5 are maybes and one is a no, pretty good odds considering the mail these days. Of the homebred extras 3/9 look good with another two maybes, which isn't too bad considering they are mostly start/finish of lay eggs. Fingers crossed for a good hatch from the developing eggs.

I added one more egg so 6 are set now. This egg is from my original silkie who is 4 years old. I don't know how fertility will be at that age but she is a sweet bird and hatched a couple lovely silkie mix chicks for us her first year laying (and brooding, ever broody that girl is!). Thankfully she's not broody now and I caught her laying an egg. We will see what we get on or around June 15.

Thanks I’ll look into selling them or who knows maybe I’ll keep some since I only have 3 olive egger hens. We shall see. But for sure after this batch I will wait before setting more eggs.

The temp is getting hotter and I’ve had bad experiences with chicks in hot weather.

Oh I wanted to ask. So one of my eggs has their air cell on the side but still toward the top flat end. Why does that happen?

My eggs are from my backyard and I set that particular one 3 days after it was laid. Granted I didn’t take care of them as hatching eggs since They were meant for food until last minute I incubated them instead. I don’t think I put em in the fridge at all.

Attached is a pic. I’m not worried, just curious. (Today is day 7)

Candled my eggs last night. 6/7 I could definitely see an eye, the 7th one had an air sac but I couldn't tell for sure if there was anything else. I'll keep it in the bator for a few more days and try it again.
