June Hatch-A-Long

Looking for opinions...it is day 5, and just want to check that these are definite blood rings?
One of the blood rings has been that shape since day 2 and has just gotten larger. The second one (sorry the pic is a little blurry) did have spider veins and now has gone to a blood ring shape. 😔

They aren’t smelling or weeping or anything, but wondering whether i should go ahead and take them out?

also, these 2 are definitely infertile right? They light up with no sign of any veins at all.

Should I toss all 4? They don’t look like they’re developing at all to me but was seeking more opinions from experience before I take them out.
The blood rings are goners for sure. The clears I would wait a couple more days. Day 5 on white eggs you should be able to see development but by day 7 if you see nothing they’re infertile.

I would remove the blood ring and the ones you can see through. They’re infertile and the blood ring one is gone as well.

First hatchling this morning as I was headed out the door. :p red jungle fowl, the freebie egg.

When you guys do the 18 day candling then go into lockdown, do you purposely place the egg so that the largest part of the air cell is up? Does the chick's wiggling and rolling move the egg enough for it not to matter anyway?

Whenever I cande I try to place the egg back in the same place/orientation along it's daily roll cycle in the bator so this is the first time I've had to think about this.

I just put mine whatever way. Chicks wiggle and roll in the egg so I don’t think it matters how the egg is placed during lockdown.

I do, because the chicks usually pip where the air cell is drawing down. I didn't when I first started hatching though and it didn't reduce my hatch rates to have them pipping in every direction I just like to be able to see the pips easily, lol.

With these shipped eggs it’s been a nightmare trying to figure out where they’re going to pip. Lol. Half of them have pipped on the opposite side to where the air cell drew down. I don’t know that it matters which way you set them in there, they’re going to pip wherever their head has wound up. Haha.

When dealing with shipped eggs, I say it's a success when they pip period!
