June Hatch-A-Long

Brooder question:

will the chicks be ok in a plastic tub as a brooder without a lid (and non slip flooring etc) for the first few days?

we’ve got a brooder set up in the garage but I want to be able to keep a closer eye on them (make sure they’re eating/drinking/getting along) and transfer them easily as they hatch for the first 3-4 days.

Just wondering if they’ll be alright without a lid without having to drill holes into the lid of my perfectly good storage bin! It is about 18” high on the sides.

thanks for any insight! 😊

Yep! I've been using Rubbermaid brooders with no lid for the first 2-3 weeks of my chicks life since I first started started hatching. Once they start to fly up to the lip of the brooder after a few weeks, that's my sign they're ready for outdoor brooding. Lol

Yes that’s what I have. I keep them in there for a week then I move them to the bigger brooder.
