Good News so far for one of my June hatches ... out of 12 assorted bantam eggs, 7 are definitely veining nicely! This is Day 6. Five are maybes, but not tossing them yet. Considering my last two hatches were total busts, this is very good news to my ears. These were eggs that were NOT shipped, and there are ZERO detached air cells, so I'm sure that is helping. I also have been able to candle a lot better this time. Having no dark or colored eggs is really helpful. Keeping my fingers crossed for the next candling session in about a week. Yay!
Next set date is June 5th. I broke down and got some shipped eggs, but not from ebay. No broken ones, but about a dozen detached air cells out of about 2 1/2 dozen. They only traveled for 48 hours, so that may help. It didn't work out for me to drive 3 hours to pick up eggs this week, so Plan B was put into place. I still may pick up some Barnevelders today that are 15 minutes from where I live, though. The shipped eggs include Cream Legbars, Barred Cochins and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.
My main goal is to have my Navy Son's kids see a chick or two hatch when they are visiting, sototal hatch rate isn't exceptionally important to me this time. Although a female chick from each of these breeds would be a welcomed sight!
I'm feeling encouraged that this will happen!
