I'm in. Setting eggs on June 5th for end of June hatch. Navy son is coming home and I'd like his children to see chicks hatching! Not doing ebay shipped eggs this time. Hoping my Ohio thread breeders come through for me with Barnevelders, Basques, Turkens, showgirls, and a few others. The more the merrier, as this will be my last hatch for the year most likely.

Hi all!! Guess I fit better over in the June hatch thread since mine are due 6/6.This is my first attempt and the the May hatch folks are starting to freak me out. LOL!! Turned eggs this A.M and could not resist candling one even though I am only at day 5. Clear at the bottom and what I guess is the yolk/slash embryo floating at the top. Did not see any air pocket. Is that pretty normal?

I am a former Navy Mom. My son has been out about 9 months! Where is your son stationed?

Very early on, you may not see the air cel in freshly laid eggs. It will become more noticeable in a few days though. At day 5 with a dark room and a good candler/flashlight, you should see veining in a spiderlike pattern starting.

The air cell will be at the top, fat end. Yes you should see the air cell on day 5. And some veining. Here is a link to candling pictures.

Thanks!! I will try another and look for the veining specifically when I turn them later. Thanks for the link I will check that also. These are replacements from my stock for two some local critters ate. I started nine. We'll see what happens.

Hello Navy mom! He is in Panama City Florida this time. Has earned his shore duty this time around. About another 1 1/2 years until he's back on a ship. He was on The Sullivans and The Phillipine Sea, both out of Jacksonville FL before that. He's done a World Tour (literally, WORLD, as they pretty much went EVERYWHERE!) and a Persian Gulf Tour (did some Somali Pirate duty and Iraq stuff), plus other smaller ones. Those were both 7 month deployments. He tries to make it home every New Years, then again in June to pick up his kids for the summer and a quick trip back in August to bring the back north.

Day 2 and my thermometers are messing up. I got three different kinds and two of them are 4 degrees off and the other shows 10 degrees high. The frustration.... Guess I'm a glutton for punishment! I bet I'm ok. Only checked them 2 during the night. Ha!
