June Hatch a Long

Help please. I noticed 1 of my eggs has a crack in it. I have read somewhere that people put a bit of wax onto the shell to try and 'save' the egg and was wondering if I should do this or should I just discard the egg?

I just said i'm not a risk taker, but this is a risk I would take. How bad is the crack? Just a hairline crack? Does it go through the membrane?
I would be apt to just keep an eye on it and see what happens... but I just read here: http://www.ehow.com/how_7676377_incubate-eggs-egg-cracked-incubator.html
that you can put white glue on the crack.
If the membrane is still intact, I'd think you'd have a pretty good chance. If the membrane is punctured, then not so good.
If it is oozing, or doesn't look like it's developing then out it goes. Good luck.

I don't think the membrane has cracked but not 100% sure. I have read the link and will check again tomorrow to see if I can see any obvious breaks in membrane in which case will discard. This egg came in a batch that had 2 broken eggs so it I might have missed the damage when I first put it in the incubator. I am hoping that it will be ok.

The one who's membrane was punctured had to go...there was a reason it wasn't moving. Poor guy was a goner probably 8 days ago. :(

On a good note, 9 of our self-blue OEGB babies have hatched, the other 3 eggs were still viable but both mamas refused to go back on the nest. I put them in a separate 'bator, a smaller one, and hoping those last three will hatch. There were a couple eggs that were laid later by the smaller hen, so they may just be a bit behind schedule. Going to watch them for up to 3 days.

I've read of people successfully hatching eggs with small cracks sealed that way. Can't hurt to try and hope for the best!

Not a big deal.  There is an excellent chance that they will hatch anyway.  Good luck and keep us posted!  How high is the humidity?
I just found 2 pips, one OE and one Marans! Humidity is staying fairly stable in the low 60's. Someone on FB told me the turning is more critical earlier in development than late, so I calmed down a bit. A margarita at lunch helped too. :D

I read somewhere on one of the forums that
the critical period for turning is the 2nd and 3rd weeks. One day is not going to be an issue

but trying to be realistic. On a good note, I haven't had to mess with the temps AT ALL so far...usually I am adjusting all the time.. so hopefully it will be a good hatch!

good luck all - can't wait to see pictures!
