JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

I'm so glad she's a chill broody! That's a good sign! I personally would give her as many chicks as you plan on having her raise all at once. The one time I waited a bit longer to give another chick, out of the 3 broodies, none of them would accept the straggler.
Argh! I have to make my decisions!!!! And what’s the max number you would personally try?

I figured she would be chill.... my last round of “culls” to the layer flock was when I rehomed every single layer that even looked at the 3 week old meat birds wrong. It left me with only five, but I’ve got backups growing out!

3 has been my happy number with every new broody but they can certainly raise more than that! I'm just cautious because of horror stories I've heard. Once proven, I'll give them as many as will fit. Lol

Down to just one egg left!

The rupture blood vessel chick did not make it. It stopped breathing while still having veins not receded, I think it lost too much blood. :-( It was that hugely large saddle cell, and I think that gigantic air cell didn't let it position exactly right and it popped that blood vessel trying to move around to pip.

The one left is the other largest saddled egg that I had, but it's looking really good. It internally pipped on its own, but it has a very tough membrane, so I will just continue to watch the veins.

Oh no! I'm sorry you lost a chick! Fingers crossed for the last baby! :fl
