JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

My friend, all of the eggs I'm picking up today are from her. She has some gorgeous flocks! The Rumpless have cheek tufts too. They look silly but I love it!
I love the way they look. I have thought about ordering some but they are so expensive.

My mama knows someone who has a lot of rare breed chickens, she's trying to get me some eggs to put under my new broody hen. They guy has lavender orpingtons, black copper Marans, and I have no idea how to spell the name, but the chickens that have black meat, and a lot of other breeds that I can't find around here.

They are runner ducks.
Well, my first mistake was that I was putting them in the incubator each day when I harvested them from their mothers, so its all staggered. The eggs laid from the period of 6/4/19 - 6/7/19 were put in the incubator altogether on 6/7/19. The rest were added daily from 6/8/19 - 6/17/19. So, it will be interesting.

I'm really hoping that some will make it. I've been doing the cool and mist method, although I started it a little late, and I plan on trying to hatch them sitting upright in egg cartons during lock-down. But the temp on the incubator bounces around quite a bit from 100 to 98. I candle them gingerly everyday during their daily cool down and misting, and they seem to still be kicking inside. *fingers crossed*

That does sound like quite the stagger. I wouldnt worry about that temp fliuctuation, thats nothin compared to like a 4-6 temp fluctuation.

Man... it must be nice to have someone like that near you. I cant seem to find anyone near local, so all of my hatching eggs are always shipped.

I hope he will let me buy some eggs from him, I really want to add something new. I ordered live chicks from cackle hatchery, the surprise box. We got 46 chicks and 2 ducks, my mama took 23 and I got 23. I got some polish out of it and a white rock. Most of them are EE or OE. And I got some silver leghorns from Tractor Supply. I really don't want to order eggs if I can find them here.

Here's some I ordered and hatch in April

Ayam Cemanis! Black chickens with black meat all the way through, even their organs are black I'm told! They're really cool. I have another friend that breeds those here too. I can actually get a great price on the eggs, still expensive to me but compared to everywhere else it's been an unbeatable price. It's good to have chicken friends, lol. If your Mom can't work anything local for you I can see what I can get my hands on for you here, send me a private message if you decide you want to try. I've been reading about how to package eggs for the best outcome and after chatting with others that have been purchasing and hatching shipped eggs I think I'm comfortable giving it a try.

I always candle my eggs before I set them to check for cracks or other issues that I need to take note of, or not set...all of the eggs looked great, super fresh, only a few dirty eggs...and then I came across this in the last egg I candled.
It has been really hot here but I was SHOCKED to see this kind of development in this Olive Egger! I'm not even sure it's still viable but it appears that it may be, they were all collected within the past few days...I guess this one sat out in the heat long enough to start developing. I went ahead and set it anyway but holy moly, you know it's hot outside when eggs will develop without a broody hen. lol
