JUNE - JULY HATCH-ALONG!!!!!!!

Pics
I can't wait to see pictures!

These are a few of my Easter Egger Mixes.

I don't actually know what which rooster fathered this one but it was definitely an EE egg.

This is actually an EE crossed with a Frizzle/Silkie rooster. She's neither small nor frizzled. lol

And this is a EE under a Marans roo, so essentially should be an Olive Egger as well but she isn't laying yet. :)

Wow, you have some beautiful birds! I especially love the penciling and the lavender pullet!

@jolenesdad I'm laughing so hard right now because I attempted the adorable (I thought) photoshoot of a quail chick in a spoon...not only could I not keep the chick in the spoon long enough to even focus my camera but then it pooped in the spoon! :lau:lau:lau Adorable imagery fail! I'll leave that one to the professionals! LOL!

:lau That’s hysterical!!! When you sell the print of this photo, you can call it “Thimble-sized terrified ode to spoon”!!!!:gig

That's a great setup! Cuties :p

I've got two mamas on eggs right now--first timer hatching, but I've had chickens since 2014! The polish has 13 eggs and the barred rock has 12. Both were surprises-- five years with no shockers, and then two in one week. I was out of town and those watching the flock aren't chicken people and didn't notice. Here's to hoping for pullets :fl

Does anyone have photos of EE x Polish crosses or barred rock x EE crosses? They've each also stolen some leghorn x EE crosses and potentially Wesummer or RSL x EE. I love barnyard mixes so I can't wait for babies!! :jumpy
Yes, mine have gone broody with pet sitters too - I even had a distraught call about the hen that was panting and too sick to leave the nesting box!:lau In my case, I think it’s becaise eggs sit longer on the nesting box when we have a sitter.... any idea when your eggs will hatch? Do you have an incubator as a just in case backup?

Wow, you are a hub of activity! You must be so well connected to have all of those people who now what you are hatching!

Sometimes I hatch specific chicks that people want. This time I didn't offer anyone what I was hatching until a few days ago because I had intended to keep some, lol. If it comes up in conversation while I'm incubating eggs then I put names on a waiting list but when I announced that chicks were available they were homed within 20-30 minutes. I've been very very fortunate to meet the people that I have met locally and I try to be as honest and reasonable as possible, after that it's mostly word of mouth! Plus I think anyone that actually knows me is also aware of how cautious I am about sanitation. I want the chicks to be healthy for them just as much as myself!

Thank you! I love my mixed flock! :love

LOL! That's hilarious! I may have to make a mini print and stamp a title on it just for a good laugh! :lau

That's a lot of chicks!! I'm getting there!

That's great! I feel like there aren't enough people that stand behind their word once the chicks leave the house. I think it's great that you made it right for the people that got roos!

I've been pretty successful offering sexlinked or autosexing breeds for a little more for pullets and the roosters for free with them. I haven't had to cull any yet but I do worry that I'll eventually have a handful of roosters that nobody wants. I'm a big sissy but the day will come eventually. I agreed to give my friend's husband a 6-pack of beer to cull a chicken with a tumor for me and I cried when I killed a snake that wanted to eat my chicks. I'm a serious wuss. Lol :lau
Ya, DD won’t even look at the five cockerels that we now have in a tractor and will butcher in a month. I’m doing all feed and water, and trying to remember to bring them treats and help them still feel loved... These were 9-Balls babies, if you remember the BCM hen who was such a great broody mom. So hard to go from this... to dinner. How are your broodies? Still co-parenting?

Wow, that’s amazing ethics and service with the pullet mix up!!! I bet that your customers love you!

I sold red Sex Links and because of my mix up with hatching eggs some production Red roosters were sold as Sex Link pullets. I would believe anyone would honor that mix up with a replacement. The extra step I took was calling customers to let them know, and also I offered to deliver the replace chickens so they did not have to drive. My mistake means my gas tank has to be used. I got lucky and everyone liked their replacement better which were Easter Eggers. They were the closest to point of lay and confirmed females.

I'm with DD! I'm sure someone has eaten a rooster that I gave away, I'm not even against eating them myself, I just can't do the deed, and my husband is an even bigger softy than I am. :lau

The broodies are doing great! Still co-parenting and just an observation but the Frosted Legbar and Whiting's True Blue Chicks are way smarter than the Mottled Orpingtons, lol. I constantly see that broody walking in circles trying to lead them to where she's headed. Watching the differences with the co-parenting vs single broody has been really interesting actually! One hen will take a chick to the waterer while the others continue to forage with the other broody. When they see a hawk, one mom runs to hide with the chicks and the other stands in place making a racket for a while before following them. It could all be chance but it certainly seems intentional!

I definitely need to get some better pictures soon, they're growing so fast!

Omg gorgeous birds @CluckNDoodle

OMG thankfully I had to go into the house to get something I smelled something DOWNSTAIRS and went to see and I had an egg on the VERGE of exploding. Same egg that smelled so bad before. Now I know. Omg. Disaster averted. Maybe.

I threw away the three eggs by it that had ooze in them but one is a heavy bloom marans and I had to try. I washed it and left it. Ugh

That. Smell.

Holy.

I’m pretty sure that’s what my incubator and chicken room (aka treadmill room!) smell like!!!
