The PO won't do anything sadly. Sometimes the seller will replace them with pictures, especially if they want repeat customers.

Was it insured? They won't care and even if it was insured to file a claim is terrible and you have to wait months for any payment. So I would save the gas money on going to the post office but I would print the pictures and send them a letter

Quick Question --

I just got a shipment of $65/dozen eggs that was pretty badly beaten up with evidence of leaking out the side.

Do I take it to the PO to open it and prove the mishandling or would they do anything anyway??

I would give it a try. What is the worse they could say? No, we can't do anything. That is pretty beat up and frankly it is no wonder the PO is going bankrupt.

I called the USPS 800 number. They took info and said the local PO would contact me but they gave little hope since it wasn't insured.

When I asked if I should take it to the local PO to open as proof, the woman said "we're not supposed to tell you what you should or shouldn't do." ????????????

When I get a box like that, my PO calls me to pick it up and when they scan it, they mark it damaged. The clerk has my number taped to the top of her desk. LOL.

They don't want the people on the phone giving advice, because they can promise what the p.o. ( or any business) wont deliver. there is NOTHING worse then trying to explain to a customer that the person you just talked to was wrong and you cant do what they said you would do.

id check wiht your shipper, sometimes they will send out more eggs for the price of shipping if things are really mangled like that. if you have a digital camera take pictures you can shoot emails to everyone with the photos.

My first shipped eggs were worse then that, it had a hole in the box. My local post person was so sad when they handed ti to me...

I have found through trial and error that if I don't mark anything on the boxes they arrive in MUCH better shape. When I mark them fragile or eggs they arrive looking like that!

Opened this in front of the supervisor at our local PO. It was clear that the two eggs on the more smashed-in corner of the box were shattered and oozed all over. The box smelled pretty bad from the outside and awful from the inside. That reinforces my resolve to pack eggs in a box and put that box in a larger box like I've done before. Not even foam will keep a blow or sufficient strength from breaking eggs.

I learned some interesting facts from the PO supervisor:

--machines do most of a package's movement from point to point, and, since machines can't read, the markings on the outside are of little consequence

--marking something "live hatching eggs" will give it more notice and maybe even special handling (from the humans who will supersede the machines

I will hope that the remaining eggs won't be scrambled, but, in my past experience, that is usually the case.

PollyC...I candled a couple of the eggs you sent me and thier is veining! I couldn't see through the maran eggs those will remain a mystery

I will candle all of them in a week or so I normally don't candle this early but I had to candle my muscovy eggs as they are due to go in lockdown soon, so I just checked a couple of your eggs for fun.
