Just bought new incubator!!! HHD 48 egg incubator

Sorry to hear that, I wish I had waited longer than a day to put eggs in, the digital was running at 38c and the humid was 50 thought great, but then put in internal thermometer that was separate, and it was reading really hot, eggs seem not bothered by the heat, it is more stable now just doesn't read 38c, nor do I want it to.

Trust the reading on the separate thermometer instead of the one displayed on the incubator as they are known to be off, sometimes by a lot! Again, if you have the styrofoam surrounding that the incubator is enclosed in..... use it.

I have 3 units I acquired just recently, first someone gave me this one...it was stored in someone's garage. I tried to clean it up, but it smelled electrical when I plugged it in below is lid...

next is bottom of lid,

then the bottom tray part...very bottom pic, I kept these for parts...
Next I bought the unit I am trying to use...

and the same people gave me the last one, they said just the fan doesn't work...but I wanted to play with parts...

Look in the manual.... I think there is a way to calibrate your incubator so it reads the correct temperature. Like say, if you're incubator is set at 38.0 Celsius and the actual temp is like 40.5 Celsius or whatever, you can adjust the digital reading on your incubator by adding 2.5 on the incubator...... and then after doing that, adjust your digital display to read 38.0 and it should match the reading on your separate thermometer.

These eggs JUST got put in to homemade incubator (PLEASE don't comment on the temp since it they just got placed and room temp eggs, the temp is down.) In a couple more days I may put them back with the HHD incubator eggs.

Hi, just bought a new, (Only a little old lady from Pasadena used it once, and it is new to me) egg incubator it is an HHD 48 egg incubator. I am going to read the user manual but I am asking (yes I am asking:gig)if anyone has used this one before. View attachment 1722635
I am warming it up for 24 hrs. with distilled water in 2 of the troughs. If it is running how I would like then I will put in these eggs. That I am getting to room temp currently to go in tomorrow.

Top to the left 8 eggs unwashed right frumunda a hen. (Barnyard mix) but the white egg mom were spitzenhauben, the blue EE, from one farm, and the tan are pure RIR from a diff farm. The eggs to the right and below were bought at a health food store fridge. Fresh though. the ones to the right fridge eggs were from the same farm as the fresh eggs to the left (blue eggs) The eggs below were from a farm about one hr. drive from my house, so close. draw back to the bottom eggs are they don't have alot of roosters. But we will see.

Below read well before commenting........

This is actually the tale of 2 incubators.

Also they gave me one more incubator for free (THIS ONE I AM MENTIONING IS COMPLETELY SEPARATE NOW) and I have not even plugged it in or anything, they said the fan is the only thing not working. I will not use it currently because I have the new working one, and not enough eggs for both, but my question is does it need the fan on this model, or can they hatch with out the fan, like still air?below is the second incubator I am mentioning. I may have a diff fan I can put in it too.

I just had a nightmare of an experience with the hhd mini 24. I had to assist hatch two, three didn’t have their yolk sacs absorbed all the way. The first two hatched fine. The third hatched but with the yolk sac. After some time in a coffee cup they were ok. I suggest you line it with many thermometers. My incubator decided to skyrocket in temp but the machines thermostat still said 37.5. My thermostat I had in it said 113. It killed 10 of my babies on the last day. I hope this one is made better than the hhd mini 24. Good luck.

Well, I have 19 in there now, I am going to candle on day 5 before adding anymore, worse case, if I don't like what is going on with the 19, I can leave my new batch in my homemade incubator, then maybe switch to a broody.

Just be very vigilant and constantly check your thermometers that you have inside of it. I have a friend that has the 96 count one but it looks like yours. She likes hers and it works for her. She does dry hatches with it. We live in the south with lots of humidity. Here’s a pic of my babies that made it. The two Black Copper Marans are the ones that I had to assist. They were in the medical wing for two days and just got moved over to the brooder with their hatch mates (l Brahmas).
