I just lost half my flock to a neighbor's dog today. I really could use a hug. 2 of our favorites were killed. Kids are taking pretty good. Better than me. Thanks for listening.
Sorry to hear that. That's awful, I've lost a few chickens to dogs in the past, one of the reasons I don't have one. Now I keep my bantams in safe places and only let them run around when I can baby sit them.
That is so sad, I live in fear for the day one of my girls gets hurt beyond help.
But owning animals means you have to face these things.
Glad your kids are holding up, let them comfort you!

I know that. And I would understand if it was a WILD animal. I really could. A fox, a raccoon, a hawk, whatever. Not a nieghbor's dog. AND he was still in there and charged me.
Definitely send a bill for the damages, and the loss of your flock . . . too bad that you can't sue for punitive damages I think its called. . . .pain and suffering!!

The Sherriff will be giving him a ticket for the dog at large and one for restitution. The Sherrif asked me how much a chicken is worth. I told him I could go on craigslist and sell each one for at least $10.00. But then my friend said I can ask for the loss of egg value also. They were layers. But it does not replace my favs.
