In PA, it's mandatory to take the course and exam before you can get your license. However, it is state-funded and free to enter.

and squirrel stew isn't bad either. All the guys in my family hunt and from being in the sportsman's club, we went to the potlucks. I've pretty much tried it all. Bear is definitely one of my favorites. Hope you get to try!!!

I have pretty good hopes of tasting bear meat this year. The guys got one last year. All three adults in the household will have a bear license, and no kids for those three days (my boys will be with their dad, the BIL will have a sitter), plus the boys having archery tags (an extra two days of bear season). I really do think that we have an ok chance at bagging a bear this year, especially considering the population that we have this year.

And, yup, we're hoping for squirrel potpie. I've never eaten it before. I must not be very well "rounded", I've eaten cow, pig, deer, chicken, some seafoods and frog legs (just tried them this year), and that's it!
