Just rescued 5 Buff Orpington-Help Please!!

Definately report him, it is animal neglect and/or abuse! If you have a county animal shelter report them there or to the Humane Society, either will know who to contact to handle this.

When I was 14 my first job was working at a pet store, which was neat and tidy at all times, the animals well cared for. Several years later I read where the owner was arrested for animal neglect. He had a small warehouse where animals were kept in dirty, unsanitary and exceedingly cramped quarters. He was arrested and was restricted to having one cat, one dog and one bird in the State of Illinois and had to close down his business.

Please, report him!

Bless you for taking them. I know there are some who would say that it will change nothing, but they are wrong. It just changed the lives of those little birds. Hoping for a good outcome!

First and foremost you need to report this guy. If little chicks are being kept in this condition then how bad do you think it is for his other animals? God I pray he doesn't have any other animals. No animal should have to suffer because of some stupid human. If people don't want the responsibility of taking care of an animal then they should not get them!!! Sorry I will get off my soapbox now!!

Kudos for rescueing the poor little buggers!!!

Poor things! I'd wait awhile before bathing. Maybe a day or so, get them use to the area. Provide some sugar in their water and some electrolytes. Once they've settled in use luke warm water and just let them soak for a little while, making sure to not drown them (obviously) Then dry them as best you can and provide a heating pad for the ones already cleaned so they can get warmer. Hopefully that'll get whatever that crud is off!

Thank you for rescuing them, they are the lucky 5. QP

I completely agree. The poor poor birds are being abused. County should know about it. My blood boils when I hear and see abuse like this. Please keep us posted how they are doing. I really hope they make it. And kudo's to you for trying to help those innocent little fluffy butts.

If you can't find those vitamins you can also use liquid baby vitamins. I put a 2 or 3 dropper full in the waterer and let them drink that for a couple of days or till its gone. I use it for my newly hatched chicks. Also I've given a 2 day chick a bath. Make sure the room is very warm. I used dawn dish soap diluted with warm water and put it in a squeeze bottle. It makes it easier to spread around and you don't have to rub very much. I rinsed with warm water, held them in a towel for a few min. and dryed with a hair dryer on low with low heat. Good luck with your new fuzzy butts.

I agree, he should be reported, and I probably will here in the next couple of days. Im sure there has been other folks who have bought from them. They also had a beautiful rooster that I asked about, and he said it was a fighter?? I did NOT ask questions, guess I should have, except I had my 3 year old with me, and was trying to hurry

. ANyhow, it was in a 2sq ft cage, as was most of them, all seperated(the grown ones). I wonder if they fight them?? Why else would he bother having them cooped up in those timy cages?

I washed one chick under warm, low pressure water, and it seemed to like it, as it sat still in my hand, then I wrapped it in a towel and seemed happy there, as it closed its eyes for a few minutes, then I tried the hair dryer. It freaked out from the noise and heat blowing I guess, so I just dried her off as good as I could and put her back under the heat lamp. SHe is a bit fluffier than the others now, even without using soap! Ok, well I will be picking up the dawn dish soap tonight along with the vitamins.

Thank you guys so much! I dont know what I would have down without ya! Im still a nervous wreck though, just praying they make it! I truly love the Buff Orps. I think they are so beautiful!
