Just rescued 5 Buff Orpington-Help Please!!

Aww, you guys are great! My babies are doing great! I am giving them vitamins in their water. There was only 1 day they were on the antibiotics, and that was the first day. They look great, all but one looks good around the eyes. The one that still looks kinda bad in the eye area was older than the rest, so it mustve had to endure the bad conditions longer. Other than that, they have really pepped up..alot! They are just little fluffballs. I will probably keep them seperate for another few weeks, or maybe until they all go outside even.
I will post a new pic on Monday, as that will be their 1 week anniversary with me.

As for the guy I got them from, well I put in the complaint, not sure what happens now. Thsy didnt sound like they were very concerned, as I had figured. Some of these small country towns just dont take animal cruelty that seriously unless it is large animals like horses.
Anhow, I plan to call back soon to see what the progress is. I will keep yall informed.

More pics coming Monday!

Great work with all your TLC, and great support from everyone. I'm sure you have 5 happy girls there!! The 24 hour before and after are amazing...your hard work and love shows. What about calling the MSPCA, or even try to go to there website and submit the complaint there. I'm sure they would look into it. To bad we cant take jerks like that and put them in a small crate with all the other jerks and let them sit there a few weeks or months, and just throw them some bread crumbs and a bucket of water that has built up slime in it. Of course we will start them out with fresh sawdust for them to obsorb there crap, but why would we change it....they can just kick it around with there feet. Best of luck with your new chicks.

It failed to register w/me that you were in Tennessee. And now I understand their apparent lack of concern in regards to the welfare of the chickens. We lived southwest of Nashville for a year in a small rural neighborhood of about 30 homes. We were stunned at how people treated their dogs there. Most of the neighborhood dogs lived in tiny kennels and seldom ever got out. Often times there would be 2-3 large breed dogs w/a small dog house in a 5x8 kennel.

The folks across the street had about 15 smaller dogs of various breeds and a couple of medium sized ones that lived about 23 hours of the day in cages in their basement. The rest just let their dogs run free to terrorize the neighborhood and attack other dogs, cats and the like. Definately a different mind set about animals among those folks. I would try the ASPCA if the local authorities are unwilling to handle the situation.

I'm anxiously awaiting the updated pics of the little darlings.

dkvart1, There are some "hillbillies" that treat their animals bad, but the majority of us Tennesseans love our animals IMO. I dont know of anyone who mistreats their animals personally, but it seems the further back in the woods you get, the more the abuse occurs. These folks were definitely way back in the woods, lol, but I had no idea what I was getting into because the ad on craigslist seemed very appropriate. ANyhow, I just dont want you guys to think that we are all like that, when in fact, the majority love their animals. In fact, today I am on my way to Alabama to pick up a beautiful Golden Retriever that is being given away due to the man working too much to look after him. Were so excited! I just hope he doesnt think he can eat my chicks, or he will have to go! LOL.

I think there are fools in every state. I know of small areas here in Texas like what you describe. My dad is from east of Knoxville, way back in the hills. His family had been there since the early 1700's. They had sheep and chickens and there is NO WAY they'd treat their animals like this. I don't think that all people in any state are animal abusers. They exist in every state from Maine to Hawaii, but are the minority.

I totally agree! Well said!

My apologies to all for making it sound like I was implying that it was indicative to Tennesee (or southern states in general), my post was rather poorly worded and I omitted the fact that the people that hoarded the smaller dogs kept in cages 23 hrs a day were originally from Illinois.

I know animal abuse and neglect occurs across the country. Sadly in more rural areas money is often tight and funds simply aren't available to deal with cases of abuse and neglect the way they should be. It's not a matter of north or south, east or west, it's a matter of resources to pay for people to investigate and take the necessary action. But I have lived in several areas of the country in my life and I have noticed a difference in how particular areas of the country regard pets and or/livestock in general. That's not to say that the general populace in those places abuse or mistreat their animals, just that there is a difference in how they view their animals.

I'm sorry I ruffled so many feathers, my apologies.
