This is one idea provoking thread! While I absolutely believe in real bullets, I am going to buy a paint gun today. I have to admit that not every predator in my yard has been a bear or fox. Now I can live by my mantra without any guilt.......

Shoot first and ask questions later!

Just in case someone stresses... NO, I haven't actually shot any dogs, but I have seen enough horror that I have worked myself into deciding I will. This paintgun thing is just the perfect "give the owner a chance" solution. And the neon splatter so eliminates the "it wasn't my dog" crap. I love it!

Ummm ... I don't think that word means what you think it means ...

Who was supposed to read the word "feral" and the implied threat of the bullet?

The other feral dog who no doubt put the collar on it?

I
may have to "borrow" that idea if you don't mind. My neighbors have a habit of letting their beagle do his business in everyone else's yard.

I have put the neighbor dog's business in a baggie and taped it to the collar. Things did change after that. No more neighbor dog poop in the yard.

That's a great idea too!

I also think posting a sign saying " if your dog comes home shot by a paintball.. that's your first and only warning... next time.. Real bullet. Keep your dogs off my property"

I think any owner who saw their dog running home with green paint and a broken rope can put it together... If your dog came home thus, you should be upset that he was somewhere where he could (and in many cases 'should') have been shot for real, and be grateful that the problem was pointed out by someone who has a little more imagination.

This is one of the best threads I have read in ages!

Of course you haven't seen it again. You abused it & it was probably a little traumatized. Why is this funny?

When I see dogs running loose, if I have the free time I try to catch them. If they seem friendly. I would rather help my neighbor out by catching their dog who may have broken out of the yard & returning it home safely, along with a warning/message about the chickens, than shoot it with a paintball gun or worse if I didn't have to. If my dog escaped from anywhere I would be devastated & would hope that I could rely on the kindness of strangers to help him get back home, instead of having to worry about people shooting him if he wandered on to their property, even if he wasn't doing anything other than existing in their space for the time being.

Don't get me wrong I prefer to see someone saying they shot a dog with a paintball gun to shooting it with a REAL GUN.

Here we go again. It was not intended to be funny. It was intended to send a message, which is, control your dogs, they are pets on your property but predators on mine. He DID send a message/warning. A neighbor's dog that is in my space is not simply existing, he is trespassing. And one day you will be sorry you tried to catch a dog that "seemed friendly." I have the scar to prove it.

It's simple enough. If you are going to have a dog, then have the means to confine him. If your dog broke out of the yard, you did not confine him properly.

I was actually referring to the people in this thread who seemed to find it amusing.

Please don't tell me what I will be sorry for some day. As I work with dogs for a living, I am familiar with the dangers associated with certain actions on my part. I have experienced what it's like to get in the way of an aggressive, fighting dog. The fact that I have the opinion that I do doesn't mean I lack experience or "real knowledge" of what things are like. It just means I think differently than maybe you do.

My dog broke out of a friends yard once & trotted down the street. I realized it a few minutes later. Had he wandered onto an unfriendly person's yard, would this be something he deserved to die for? Sorry, I just don't think so.
