Hello! I don't have much to share yet, but this Summer I will have 4 Welsh Harlequin Hens and 1 Drake. I wasn't planning on a Drake at first, but I may as well since I'm ordering Ducks anyway, and they will all be the same age. The picture below shows a beautiful Bahama Pintail Duck. I came across that picture and I'd like to someday have a flock just for the purpose of showing.

I'm in the planning stage of a pond, and buying pieces when I can afford them. It will be built with multiple metal galvanized "Stock Tanks", a filter tank, a filter box and a pump.

I can't wait to be a paid member here at BYC because I've learned SO much. However, I just got started and I've spent a small fortune on equipment (I still have 1 kidney left) so it will have to wait for now.
Only researching the pond right now. That is going to be a huge and expensive project.

SO, I think I need a different Welsh Harlequin Drake than the one that's coming with my Hens. I have a suspicion that inbreeding creates problems and I'm guessing that all the WH in this area have come from the same breeder.
Any thoughts? Any input on the topic?

It’s many generations before you have to worry about inbreeding causing problems. Are you buying local? Talk to the breeder hopefully they have more than one drake and they aren’t all from same parents.

Yes. The breeder is in my town, actually. Being a newbie, I'm probably being overly cautious.
