You cannot trust the thermometer or the humidity readings from the instruments installed in a store-bought incubator.

everyone must calibrate at least once thermometer and salt test a separately purchased humidity gauge.

It should be requirement.

Your incubator could read 101 all day long and you won't know if it's really 101 unless you have a calibrated thermometer.

I promise you this made zero sense to me before I started hatching....I could not understand how a brand new thermometer could be wrong but they are.

Thanks! That makes sense. How do you calibrate the thermometers? I thought it wasn’t possible with digital ones? I know about the salt test but not the thermometer.

One of mine actually has a calibrated option but I’m not really sure what it means or if I should do it or not haha

Did I do something wrong or has it just not been long enough? I set it up last night so I think it’s been 12 hours?

I thought that would be long enough? Overnight?

Maybe not quite?

Or maybe I have too much water in the mix and/or not enough salt?

I don’t have time to set the eggs this morning anyway so I guess I’ll just wait and see if the hygrometers get a little more accurate?

The bator is running slightly cool but I’m not gonna worry about it too much. I left it alone for now but did turn the heat in my room up very slightly.
