Thanks! I’m gonna try this! I don’t have them marked with an x or an o but do have them numbered. I’ll try adding an x and an o and watch them for a while.

And I’m going to feel awful if I caused them to die :hit

You have to make sure your temp is good (calibrated) thermometers and salt tested humidity gauges.

I've said this a million times but you have to watch them to make sure your bator isn't cooling down or heating up too high.

If you aren't checking it often you don't know for sure that the bator is staying stable.

You can't just set the eggs and walk away.

Pay attention to details.

Did you mark the eggs up yet so you know for sure the eggs are being moved in that turner?

This is all stuff that you should have done before you ordered eggs.
The whole getting to know your bator well makes a difference.

You taught me a lot on my first hatch. The second one has been way better! I think I'll be fully knowledgeable when it comes time to do the quail eggs.

@FortCluck should she bunch all the eggs together under the center of the incubator?
they are pretty spread out with empty spaces correct me if i am wrong
i always thought they would be colder if they are out by the edges

I never thought of that before.

I was basing it off of this chart. I moved them around again today.

I love my farm innovator 4200. I got it for $90 on Amazon with a random sale.

Put your incubator on Craigslist if you're not going to use it so you can get some money back. Don't just shove it in the closet :gig

That’s awesome!! Mine was expensive. :hit

And :lau good point!! Kiki would probably kill me if I did that!!

I think it’s probably not the incubators fault but my eggs. Except maybe my turner.

I would move them to different spots every day just so they're getting equal time in different temps. Mine are spread out too, but I have been rotating them, I'm not a pro. Far from it...

Yeah that’s what I’ve been doing based on that picture.

@FortCluck i dont have a turner in my incubator i have the little giant from tsc lol
it is alot of work hand turning eggs but i candle alot so that helps

Nice! I should have just gotten that one haha

And that makes sense!!

The farm innovator 4200 I think is on sale right now or on black Friday... It's $20 cheaper or something like that. But Amazon has some good deals usually.

Kiki is going to flip at the enabling in this post

Oooohhhh that’s tempting!!! Plus I could have more room to hatch more at once!!! :lau

But yeah she probably is. :lau

Thankfully I have no money atm. Spent it all on the fish this week :lau

But before, what turner were you using?

I think he never had one.

ive never used a turner before

Wow that’s a lot of work! Do you hatch a lot?

Oh! I'm too forgetful for hand turning!

I still remember when I was a kid and my grandfather was hand turning the ostrich eggs. He would let me candle them! The memories are still vivid like it was yesterday!

I'm doing emus as soon as we buy land!

Lol me too but I’ll give it a go. I marked the eggs. And flipped them over. The X side was facing up so I flipped it. Figured I’d get a turn in now. Also moved the incubator to the other room.

and oh wow that is awesome!!! :love

Emus are cool!!! What do people use them for though?

Forget that chart...it doesn't mean shizzle sticks.
That is that person's own info...the person who made it, for their own bator.

my first hatch was with a homemade incubator i used a bucket full of water with another bucket inserted on top with holes in bottom of it
i used a light bulb for heat and i had 100 % hatch rate but i only incubated 2 eggs
i would never do that again it is very risky and alot of work

Yeah probably but the eggs were kind of an impulsive purchase. stupid for sure but that said I did have like a whole week where I should have tested this stuff.

But that said, I have been checking it a ton. I haven’t candled much at all but I look at the temp every time I walk by and it’s almost always the exact same so I think it is holding steady/stable but idk for sure. I haven’t gotten one of the regular type thermometers yet, having a hard time finding one, but the others seem pretty accurate. Maybe today I will find one and test it.

I did salt test them but I don’t think I let it sit for long enough. I did order some more that got here a few days ago. I could try to calibrate those and put them in in a few days to be sure they’re right.

And yeah I just did that so hopefully it’s turning them but I may just hand turn anyway since it seems they’re sticking anyway.

I'm going to be using them to hatch eggs, meat, and entertainment

You can use emus for meat, it's actually very healthy. My grandfather did ostriches for meat and eggs and he sold them to local restaurants... It was big money
