Yeah I think it will!! I think knowing the breeds will help as opposed to just random barnyard mixes haha and you have good breeds. And the JGs grow huge lol

The only ones that were in this group are the red sex link and Delaware. I didn't pull any other eggs from any of the other layers because they were new layers.

The chicks that I have inside the house are a variety and the only way I can tell the difference is by the feathered legs because those are Cochin mix

Btw finally did the eggtopsy a little bit ago. Still need to sanitize the incubator but I’m gonna do that later tonight.

Anyway, turns out it was another lavender after all just like I thought

That was my main reason for opening it tbh, I’ve been super curious ever since I got the eggs if it was a Lav or a Buff and I couldn’t just not know.

I know that sounds super callous, I of course care about the baby and that it died, it’s sad, so I’m not laughing at that, but rather at how I am so nosy/curious and just had to know.

Anyway, I was already pretty sure I knew why it didn’t hatch. Never internally pipped. But I did find out possibly the real reason why.

I’m pretty sure the little baby was pretty malpositioned cause I couldn’t even find the little guy’s head. Found the foot but I think the head must have been tucked in the middle or something. Maybe under a wing or something.

Of course I didn’t unfold the baby so I may be wrong/just have missed it but I did take it fully out of the shell/membrane and turn it over and stuff and I didn’t see a head or beak.

I do feel really bad though cause if I had intervened sooner maybe I could have saved the baby.

But I was also trying not to intervene cause I know sometimes helped babies don’t make it but if being a little malpositioned was the only thing wrong with it, it probably would have been fine.

That makes sense!! Those are good breeds. And could go for egg layers or meat due to the breed mix and size.

I know I've only done a few hatches, but I don't like helping because if they are not capable of making it out of the shell then they are probably not capable of thriving in the real world.

That’s exactly what I was thinking but I think it stayed alive for at least a little bit so I feel bad for killing it.

And you have to get some!!!

I had those 9 die in the egg and it could've been my fault, nature's fault, or no fault... The hatch I just did turned out way better so I'm happy with that

Hm that’s true. Guess it does no good feeling bad over it. If it was going to hatch, it would have. It was extremely malpositioned. It’s feet were up by the air cell which means it’s head was probably down at the small end and tucked under something. It also didn’t really feel the egg so it may have quit at some point too. I do have 9 happy healthy babies though so I guess I should focus on them.

Maybe the chick was sick, deformed, or something else and it not hatching saved you the headache and emotional distress from it all.

My chicks are running like crazies in the brooder, they need to feather out so I can put them outside.

Sounds fun but before I hatch any out I want to know something? My hens are RI reds & as you probably know I now know I have one buff Brahma rooster & now I’m thinking one of my reds might be a rooster as well we had said we wanted to keep it small & just wanted them for eggs only but now since we have a definite rooster if we decide to hatch some out & I keep the Brahma rooster will this create a new breed since the roo is Brahma & the hens are all reds I don’t plan on keeping the red rooster if he is a he because he bites me or tries to every time I go in the coop!
