Kentucky people

btw - I forgot to add earlier in a post....

When I went to turn off lights in the banty coop Etta (who is currently housed there) was sitting on all those oegb eggs that Double and Trouble and whomever else had laid. She sleeps in the nest boxes - not sure if she'll stay there tomorrow, but it was odd that she would choose that one to sleep in, since there are about 8 eggs in the nest.

She's never laid an egg herself (unless those 2 off color eggs are hers, I don't know who laid those) so I find it odd that she might be considering going broody. But one night's sleep does not a broody make, I guess, I'll keep an eye on it.

If she doesn't stay, you may need to put them in the bator. I would think sitting on them all night would get them started developing. But idk, Gertie sat on her golf ball all night when she started going broody this time. The next day when she got off to eat and poo, there was another of HER eggs in the nest!! so she evidently wasn't technically 'broody' the first day, just wanting to, and didn't want her golf ball to get too cold!

<edit> But she always goes on the roost, so her being in the nest was a good sign.

but I don't think that any of the eggs are fertile. Double and Trouble JUST started laying this week, and if the other two are hers, then they are her first eggs, too. And since James died this last week, I don't know if he had a chance to do anything to help.

It would be cool if two of them were hers and they were fertile - then I might get a replacement James. But I wouldn't hold my breath over it.

meri (who ought to be in bed, because I have to get up early again tomorrow to go get chicken feed - forgot to get any today).

The cochin that dad has, Bertha, always lays a light brown egg. It's brown, but lighter than some that you probably got from his other hens!

As far as James, the hens can stay fertile for like 16 days, so if they are hers, and they are fertile, they would most likely be his.

Shelley---who is going to bed, cause there just aren't many people on tonight!! Plus Cris doesn't have school on Fridays, so I can't sleep late tomorrow!!

I'm supprised at how fast my chicks are feathering out. But then I am loosing track of time. Two more nites to go. The crazy nites, Friday and Saturday.

"No we don't sell Beer or alcohol. The closest place is ½ mile down the road... "

I say this to any group of young men or women who wonder in looking around like they had never been in our store before. Usually they will turn around and walk right out again.

I don't drink except on special occasions. ( like when someone else is buying or I'm wine testing or for medicinal purposes...) So I figure people out looking for alcohol late on the weekend either cannot plan ahead, or... have to drink everything in the house because it is there.

Had an uncle two years older than me who was an alcholic. Could never trust him... lie, cheat, steal, be abusive. All to get his next fix or while he was drunk. He would then be very sorry and humble and apologetic until he needed another fix.

Glad I didn't find anyting in the papers about you'll. Hope you had fun...

to be honest i shouldnt sell them as a pair because im not sure on the gender of the 5 month old iv been told it was a pullet and roo because of its single comb so that one is free the roo is $3 and the 2 12 week olds are $3 so $9 for them all.
