Just wild guess here, but I think she has about 16 eggs under her. She couldn't fit another one if she wanted to (and she does want to

)

I'll wait to move her. I know the ones I got from Cindy are all marked, so I will be able to tell those ones, at least.

I love broody hens - I love watching them go all over with their babies and such. I also love not having to brood them in my house, although if it turns too cold, I may have to bring her and her eggs inside

I'm talking 0 or below, though so I doubt I'll see that temp.

Jake is supposed to be sending me a heater for the coop. It is one of those heaters out of office buildings that they put into the lobby where you walk in the door - so it is very thin/low profile, and can attach right on the wall. I'll hook that up in that coop once I get it. I plan to put the other chicks (the ones in my sewing room) in with the cochins (they got room in there) so I'll probably put the heater in that cell. But, it is right next door to the layer cell, so if I open the tarp the heat will generate well.

I also plan to throw in a ton of bedding, too, once they hatch, so they have something to get into and snuggle. I can only hope that the hen knows what she is doing by hatching this time of year. She must like the new coop (and the chicken corral to keep the donkeys out) because she has never been broody before.

Shoot, Shelley, in another month I'm gonna be like you - overrun with baby chickens

I already have a good start.

Hey!! Most of mine are not babies anymore!! I only have 4 or 5 that are still 'babies'.

As long as she has good insulation under her, like straw or hay or whastever you use, you shouldn't need to bring her or the chicks/eggs inside. Gertie hatched all those eggs from Cindy, in an open building, when the temps outside were 40's and 50's mostly, so she should be ok.

You know what I (well, Hubby, actually) just remembered???!! Cindy's lamp!! I forgot to give you your lamp back, Cindy.

Shoot, that sucks. Well, if ya don't need it right away, you know where it is. Just let me know if you do need it, and I'll get it to ya.

I got the room cleaned up (more or less) I even vacuumed,

freaked the chicks out quite a bit, but it needed it.

I have the month olds back in the playpen, and I cleaned out the triple cell cage, and put the tiny babies into one of those cells, so I can get rid of one brooder taking up space, anyway.

gotta go for now, though.

Let me know if ya need your lamp Cindy - sorry I forgot it (I was actually happy I remembered to grab a towel and the chicks

, that's what happened when I tried to put her into the playpen with the younger chicks - only the other way around. Poor girl was trying to be nice and sweet, and Chickaboom kept terrorizing her. Of course, he terrorizes everyone. Little does he know, it'll just make him that much easier to butcher

Well good morning to you. I just hate getting up early. The baby got up at 3am like it was time to get up. I think I laid her down with me at 4 just for my alarm to go off at 430. I am so sleepy. I need more caffeine.

That is for sure. She will be 2 in may and it seems like yesterday that I brought her home. She is totally different than my first girl. Either that or where I am older. There is 10 years difference. What was I thinking??
