Just wild guess here, but I think she has about 16 eggs under her. She couldn't fit another one if she wanted to (and she does want to
)
I'll wait to move her. I know the ones I got from Cindy are all marked, so I will be able to tell those ones, at least.
I love broody hens - I love watching them go all over with their babies and such. I also love not having to brood them in my house, although if it turns too cold, I may have to bring her and her eggs inside
I'm talking 0 or below, though so I doubt I'll see that temp.
Jake is supposed to be sending me a heater for the coop. It is one of those heaters out of office buildings that they put into the lobby where you walk in the door - so it is very thin/low profile, and can attach right on the wall. I'll hook that up in that coop once I get it. I plan to put the other chicks (the ones in my sewing room) in with the cochins (they got room in there) so I'll probably put the heater in that cell. But, it is right next door to the layer cell, so if I open the tarp the heat will generate well.
I also plan to throw in a ton of bedding, too, once they hatch, so they have something to get into and snuggle. I can only hope that the hen knows what she is doing by hatching this time of year. She must like the new coop (and the chicken corral to keep the donkeys out) because she has never been broody before.
Shoot, Shelley, in another month I'm gonna be like you - overrun with baby chickens
I already have a good start.
