I thought you said it was up north of here. (did I read that it was in Indiana?)

I'm not really quite ready for ducks at the moment, anyway - soon, maybe or if I had babies to put inside, but right now, It is gonna be super cold for the next few days, and I'm just trying to figure out what to do with chickens. Adult ducks I am just not prepared to get.

Miss Piggy has GOT TO GO!!! OMG!!! the stink is amazing. I never knew a bird could lay such HUGE poos. That chicken craps the size of an egg!! She smells like she's been visiting the local Mexican Restaurant, too. wow. we're talking noxious.

I'm afraid I may have to take her babies away from her and keep them inside and put her out. She is not gonna be a happy camper, but I don't know what else to do. I honestly cannot tolerate that smell, and I can't put the babies out in 9 degree weather.

Oh yeah... When my first hens started to lay eggs their poops (scat)(dropings) were huge. At first I thought that there was a large dog comming into my yard until I saw one pass the steaming mass.

I agree it is amazing and stinky...

I just called down to the farm and asked that they put a light in coop. There is a heated water base inside and they just put a 100 watt bulb inside, my 2 Marans roosters combs were so frost bitten 2 weeks ago I hope it helps, I keep thinking of all the poor dogs left outside in the cold in dog houses with no heat It is going to be so cold the next couple days,Poor animals.
My spoiled gang are in my bed under the covers , they have never been cold a day in their lives.
Is anyone else putting any extra heat in coops? They say it has not been as cold as it's going to get for 2 years.

No the duck place is here in Kentucky over by Lexington, the farm I was looking at is over in Indiana. I have found a couple of places to look at not to far from Columbia area, one is 8.8 acres with a house in poor shape, 3 bedroom, 1 bath near Mt. something if I recall for 35,900.

Anyway you might want to file the Duck Farm number, in case you want to replace the drake that was killed.

Yer welcome, sorry I had such a hard time getting back to him to call ya

usually he isn't that hard to get ahold of.

Glad you guys got it worked out. He said he'd need to borrow one of my cages to transport them, so I'll be seeing him soon, I guess.

well, Miss Piggy is outside in the coop - and her babies are complaining off and on. I know she was upset, and I hated to seperate them, but I didn't have a lot of choice. I'm afraid if I put them out there in the cold temps we're gonna have, they'll die.

boy can those babies make a lot of noise, though.

even the noisy little "chicken formerly known as Dumpling" is trying to look over into their cage as if to ask "what the heck do you have in there??"

I'll be walking around the yard and see one of those laying there - it even intimidates the dogs

, yeah, I came in from the coop and Toby and the cat were stretched out next to the woodstove - lazy butts!!

I have the heat lamps going in the coops - it doesn't raise the temp much, but it has to help. The "coolest" coop is at least down a hill, so out of the wind, for the most part. Even so, I had to have those babies inside, I'm not sure they'd do as well in the cold as the bigger chickens would.

Well, unfortunately, I have two houses going so double your bill and add another 20% because I got teenagers. I hate to say it, but I'll be glad when they move out

- my bills (all of them, not just electric) will be cut in half, easily, if not more than half when they leave.

Hubby and I dont spend a lot of money of needless things - nor do we run the electric all the time. We're simple folks, for the most part. I prefer to run the woodstove - my kids prefer to set their furnace at about 75 degrees, then open the door if they get too hot
