Update on the duckies....

I went out to check on them (many times, but this time I stood out there awhile) and since I was there, they got bold. The girl is definately in charge

he follows her wherever she goes, but he would rather stay by the duck water and house.

So she sees me standing there, and comes over by the woodpile (I was standing near the woodpile by the driveway) - then turns and goes to the driveway, checks out my truck, and turns back to the duckhouse. It wasn't very far, but at least she is exploring a little.

Right now they are back in their "safe" area near the duckhouse.

Man I can't wait to get some more ducks

I hope Julie puts that order in early so I can get them early March, and not later in March.

Toby still isn't sure how to take the ducks.

Man, I would be afraid to let call ducks free range! They are so tiny, I'm sure the hawks would have a field day with them!

I only have 2 more days till I stop turning my silkie eggs, then all heck will break loose!! I have hatches due the 23rd, 25th, and 27th!!! I should have enough room to put all the eggs from one bator into the hova, so I can use both LG's for hatching, once it gets time to hatch. I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to do it. I gave one friend their bator back already, I'm thinking I should have held onto it a bit longer!

I had my doubts, since they are so small, but I know George is great at Hawk watching, and I been checking on them a lot, they seem to be staying close to cover. Plus, their color right now pretty much matches the ground cover (sort of a greyish white, since all the grass is frozen) so they blend in a bit.

This is also one reason I want to get more ducks and those geese, so they might have some safety in numbers.

Shelley, if they hatch, I will have Greys/Silvers, Blues, Blacks, Whites, Splash, and Buffs in the Silkies, I'll also have Buff Orps, RIR, Seramas, Mille Fluer D'Uccles.

Between the two bators I have something like 74 eggs going, 42 in one and 32 in the other. So hopefully this time I'll get something to hatch!

And yes you can split them with Christy.

That RIR hen I got from Shelley has to go to Sano next friday.

She keeps picking at the light brahma's feet - I now have 3 hens with bloody feet from her - I caught her doing it to one who hadn't any blood on her feet yet - so I assume she is causing it. (she also has blood on her beak, the wench!!)

Can't trust them red hens (and the red roos are the worst!!)

. I got two red hens - I'm amazed those two never caused a problem, but this one is. Of all the red chickens I've had the two that I have in with George are the only ones not to be total freaks. And even the one New Hampshire red hen is a bit weird, but not destructive to other hens, at least.

btw - Miss Piggy has recovered mentally from her babies being taken from her. She is out and about now, with the rest of them.

I've also decided to downsize the bantam cochins to a trio - trying to decide which ones, though. That way I'll have a trio of bantam cochins and a trio of large cochins.

Well, I got to take Jon to work, so I'll see ya all later.

so I go out to take Jon to work, and the chickens are all over by the ducks hanging out. They saw me coming out, and all the chickens came running - well, the ducks came running too - with the little girl duck quacking loudly.

The ducks wanted to go into the chicken coop with George's flock tonight, but I put them into the chicken run (ran Mr. Speckles and crew inside). The chickens got along fine with them outside, not sure how they'd do all cooped up all night with the ducks - I don't want the ducks to be picked on. Little girl duck is out there not being happy - quacking up a storm. She likes the chickens, I guess.

I put the red hen into her own cage inside the cochin coop - so she isn't being gang banged by the boys in the bachelor pen, or she isn't picking on everyone in the cochin pen.

well, gonna cruise a bit, see what's happening on here.

I want a blue or a black male please?

If they hatch, you are more than welcome to them. There is an ad onKijiji Louisville for a guy over in Grayson selling two Silkie Roos about 7 months old, one is a black and the other is a blue splash for $5.00 each.
