the chinese leftovers didn't last that first night at my house, me and the kids ate it for dinner - hubby had something else, of course

I need to go into town later to the store, gonna get some greens or some fruit for them to munch on - everything here is frozen solid and dead otuside, so no grass to pick for them to munch on.

so is that what the babies I have are? Or are they welsumer mamas and daddy too?

how many times have I asked you this? my brain doesn't work as well in the cold

The mommas are the olive egg layers, and the daddy is the Welsummer.

OOOOHHHHH ok

I promise I wont ask again

They're sweet chickens, whatever mix they are.

Oh, btw I'm torn on one of the earlier chicks I hatched - it's one of those rir mix chicks I hatched from Shelley's dad's eggs. He is the sweetest thing - whenever I go out to the coop he looks at me and if I call him over he comes running and snuggles my feet til I pick him up to pet him, or just bend over and pet him - he is such a big baby.

I call him "sweety" - but 1) he is a red roo - and that is a huge no-no here and 2) I don't know if I need another roo.
He is too sweet to eat him, though, so I may have to rehome this little guy.

The other roo (chickaboom) I'll have no problem butchering - he's a mean little cuss - attacks the other chickens all the time.

Layne and I had some for supper that night and last night was the chicken n dumplings

speaking of chickens... I better go check eggs again - had one that felt frozen to me yesterday, it didn't crack, but it was pretty solid.

I thawed it in the fridge, guess I'll keep that one to eat here

be back in awhile.

Hi! I don't have any EEs available but I do have some chickies that will be available in a few weeks if anyone wants them...Their momma is an Olive egger and the daddy a Welsummer. I am going to keep a couple and rehome the rest. So if anyone wants em let me know.

Thanks cthrash1! I'll keep that in mind. Im thinking now that I would like to find a bantam americuana hen..to breed in to a blue egg serama line???? (Would be cool...I'l have to see if the colored egg gene is dominant first, I guess..)
My bro is still going to look for the larger birds. He wants them for eating eggs and to sell.
We were thinking someone would have extra around here if the had to order 25 from a hatchery and didnt want to keep them all. Oh well...we will see! Back to posting ads!
If anyone knows aboutany americuana bantams, please PM me...I dont get on here every day and its hard to catch up on posts sometimes! Thanks to you all! Gotta go break 7 inches of ice out of one of the horses water tanks. I broke a metal T Post chipping at it this morning...lol!

Briarpatch, weren't you looking for some India Blue's? There is an ad under Farm & Garden on the Louisville Craigslist for them. Mom was a Black Shoulder peafowl and Dad was an Indian Blue peafowl,
Located in Franklin, wants $40.00 each, 2008 hatch.

Wow is it windy out there!! Donkey's are all hiding in the barn and the lean-tos

Chickens are all in, finally - Miss Celie wouldnt go in earlier, so I just went out to let her inside (she was waiting

) and the ducks are out in the run - I didn't lock them in the duckhouse tonight, cause it isn't supposed to be as cold, and I figured they could have access to water earlier in the morning this way.

Well they were out, quacking quietly to me, and I got Miss Celie inside and walked over and told them they had to go to bed - and they both waddled over and went into their house!

it was so funny. I'm in love with these ducks

. I can't wait to get the Blues in March.

I didn't think I would want ducks or geese when I got the chickens - but then, I wanted and got guineas and that turned out badly, so I figured I may as well try the ducks and geese. I figured it couldn't be any worse than the guinea fiasco

I hope the Blues are as sweet as these two are.

That's not entirely true. There is a different color that looks silver that doesn't have the bib, or has a very light colored bib. If it has red feathers on its belly way far back by its booty, then it is a male. It looked like it had a very light colored bib, but I'm not sure. You could try the vent thingy that makes the 'foam' come out, but I'm not sure how to do that.

OMG, from now on if I need a cage I will BUY one!! I spent over 4 hours today making cages for my jumbo quail and Cris's pigeons. The pigeon cage is not finished yet
th.gif
Dad was thinking of buying some wire to make cages to sell, to make extra money, I told him that the people that make them are not making a dime off them! It takes almost a whole roll of the 1"x1" to make a 2'x2' cage, plus take in the time spent on them? I paid $12 each for cages that are about 2x2x2, and a roll of 24"H, 1"x1" mesh wire costs about $13 I think it was. They don't make much off them, unless they buy the wire wholesale!!

Cris decided to let the chickens out this morning, and he found a 'fluffy's egg'. He was so super excited!! That was about all he talked about all day! It was so cute!
