Well, maybe the little girl duck was just too cold to quack yesterday morning,
lau.gif

She certainly told me in no uncertain terms this morning to hurry and fill the water dish. It wasn't excessive, but it was demanding

Once she had her water, she was happy, and hushed up.

I had a bantam who did that. Only she would get just out of arm's length and let me have it. Just jabber away intently. Once I filled the water she drank and went away.

Oh, my sister might be breeding her snake (an orange creamsicle corn) to someone else's Ghost corn (I had a ghost corn, he died this last summer ) if anyone wants babies, maybe she'll have some to sell when she comes down this spring.

Star is interested in the baby snakes! She wants me to get some.

Yeah, I'm almost positive I have a pair of silver. The male (that I know for sure is male) has a very obvious bib under his chin. He's pretty
big_smile.png

The other - that I think is female - is just slightly lighter, and not in a distinct bib, under her chin.

The splash Shelley says is a male - I can't tell, myself

and the "wild" colored one is female.

I love to hear them "crow" or whatever ya call the male sound - my hubby laughs every time he hears them.

To CW who asked where abouts in Shepherdsville, I live off of Cedar Grove Road. I've lived out here since 1993. But I'm originally from Louisville. Sorry I couldn't answer you yesterday, here's a little story about WHY I didn't! I have a 2 year old daughter, ENOUGH SAID? NO? OK, while I was on the computer, posting for the first time to BYC, my 2 year old goes to the bathroom to go potty, somehow finds her BIG sisters makeup, tries on the RED lipstick...all over her body, the bath rug, the walls, floor, and toilet! Needless to say it took the rest of the afternoon and evening to clean her and the bathroom up. I had to throw the rug away, it was just to ground in. LOL So MY number one rule for now on is, NEVER EVER get on the computer while DEAR DAUGHTER is AWAKE!!!

Hi! I don't have any EEs available but I do have some chickies that will be available in a few weeks if anyone wants them...Their momma is an Olive egger and the daddy a Welsummer. I am going to keep a couple and rehome the rest. So if anyone wants em let me know.

I lost one baby this morning. It was the straight comb Rosecomb in the brooder...He got too far from the heat source and too close to the wire window. Found him on his side. I could see that Little momma(my Serama chick) was on top of him I guess trying to keep him warm and cheeping before I got to the brooder. because when I picked him up he was still warm.
I figured if I lost any it would have been outside, not in the garage...Speaking of outside...Boy, Little Man really had it out with someone while in the coop. He had blood running down his comb and head...All this from the tips of two comb points. I didn't have any towel or anything to sterilize and clean it with so just tried packing it with mud and pinched it... Like to have never got it to stop bleeding and it was still bleeding some when I came back to the house. He kept throwing off my mud packs. I am really impressed that none of the single combs have any frostbite...It must stay really warm in the coop at night.

Hey CW: I love your dog...It looks like he is singing and dancing with you. If you want the WR and BR chickens and want eggs to hatch too. You should invest in a few standard Cochin pullets to brood them in case those breeds aren't the broody type. Cochins and Silkies will go broody in a heartbeat but the standard size Cochins can brood more eggs at a time than the Silkies.

You probably have a better chance of the guineas getting along with the chickens if they are raised together, but even that is no guarantee. Guineas are mean cusses. But if they free range, and the chickens don't, you'll be ok if they are seperate when they are adults.
You can get "just a few" chicks at auctions or through Cackle - minimum order per breed is 5. Otherwise, if you want adults, you can get a few at auctions, too. Sometimes on Craigslist and the like will have some advertised.

I'm not sure what color combo would come out of white and barred rocks - but they'd probably be pretty. Maybe a white with black speckles in no particular pattern.

I have one barred rock hen who has never gone broody, but she is an odd bird
lau.gif
the white rocks I have seem to be inclined, but haven't gone full broody yet. They do tend to sit on the nest longer (maybe cause it's cold) even after they lay the egg, so maybe they're thinking on it

Our ugly Guinea, T-rex was raised with our flock and is mean to certain chickens and also new ones. And attacked one of the ducks like it was an intruder or something...He was relentless. I kick him out of the run when I can.

I am hoping my two giant cochins girls will be good brooders when they get older. Broodies are so much easier than incubators

Sorry to hear about Little Man - hope he is ok. I put some blukote on Eleanor's blood feather she had broken, and it stopped the bleeding, too - although you'd have to be careful not to get it in his eyes. (and he'd be blue for awhile
lau.gif
)

Bummer about the baby, too. and Umm... I may be interested in some more of the little girls ya got
lau.gif
always need egg layers.

btw - I've been hearing the term "olive egger" what do those look like? (I'll check Hendersons chart, but I've never actually seen one, myself)

Mt. Healthy has a new chicken this year a DeKalb amberlinks ? never heard of em. Did they have Spec. Sussex last year I don't remember just saw um.
They are selling eggs again this year, you can mix um duck and chicken the same price. Last year they would sell a doz. for 6.00 chicken if you picked them up.
The lady that answers the phone, does not seem to like her job.
It is difficult to pick up chicks or eggs only certain days and morning hours and never on a Sat.

Yeah, mine only hated certain chickens, others it followed like they were the chicken messiah
gig.gif

But, if you happened to be one fo the hens it hated - you were in for major thumping and attacks at random times.

I definately don't want guineas anymore - my chickens can eat all the ticks and bugs.

Only way I'd have guineas is if I kept a trio in a coop to breed them - and they would hate that, so it isn't happening anytime soon. However, if I see a great deal on some chicks this summer at auction, I jmay raise them to a certain age sell the whole batch.
