Cool! I have one that they decided to go stinky on, so I'll go and crack that one, though with as many boys as I have, I doubt they would not be fertile!

sometimes too many boys is worse than not enough boys.

We went to town, and the buttons had 3 eggs in there when we got back. One was in their dust bath/grit bowl, and had evidently gotten pecked or something, it had a hole in the end. But there was a bullseye on the yolk!!
yippiechickie.gif
So I can rest assured that the eggs I send 'should' be fertile!!

Way cool Shelley, I got my wandering Roo, finally! Glad none of the neighbors saw me chasing this chicken along the railroad tracks and down the street!
lau.gif
Or if they did, they haven't said anything yet. SO he is now in the coop with his two girls.

Oh yeah they also had A&M and Courtneaux (sp?) quail at Shepherdsville, I think someone had some buttons as well.

Well, just checked again, and there was another egg in the buttons!! So I got 4 eggs so far today!

That's great that you got your roo Chuck!! Where is Shephardsville? IN? There aren't ever buttons at our auction, and very rarely other types of quail. That's probably why the quail sell so well. At least in my opinion they went pretty good.

Shepherdsville, KY, right off I65. On Rte 480 I believe. But next time I go, I'll have more money with me, and hopefully itwill be warmer.

Shelley - TSC has the Equine Fresh on sale - 5.99 a bag.
I grabbed two bags, not sure how long that'll hold me with the baby ducks, but hopefully it'll hold me a week or two

I got the two chick starters and another incubator, and ended up only paying about 15 bucks over what I had in the egg and chicken can. Oh, I also grabbed another quail base and quart plastic jar for the top of it. I figure if I hatch out any quail I'll need one.

I have to go make dinner, though, cause I'm starving, have hardly eaten all day - just a short snack this morning while I was on here

Oh, and the girl at TSC told me they are looking for someone to supply more chicks this spring, and to talk to someone there if anyone has them - they are looking for folks who have like 100 or more to sell to the store for their chick days. She said they plan to expand the chick days this year, and have it run longer. I said good, cause last year they ran out of chicks in like two days and didn't get any others in.

So, anyone around Campbellesville who has a big incubator and can hatch out that many chicks at once, call the TSC store.

I can't hatch that many at once, and none of mine would be purebred (yet

am working on it).

see ya all later - I need to go find food for dinner.

I just changed my big ducklings bedding (partly anyway) and it has been a week almost since I got it, so two bags should last you a month at least!! Just make sure you put a 'thin' layer of bedding down, cause it will expand when it gets wet, and it will get wet!! I'll have to get me some when I go to C-ville on Tuesday, hopefully it will be on sale still. It works pretty good for the quail too, cause they stink usually!!

I forgot to ask dad about the orp chicks he has, and he just left for church again. I guess they are starting a revival again, so it's hard to say when he will get back!

You should have asked me for a jar, I have 2 whole packs of the quart jars I bought for canning last summer, and never used them. I think I have some pint jars too, that's what I use on my quail waterer.

Oh, and I need more button eggs
tongue.png
I posted an ad on craigslist, and someone contacted me and wants 25 babies!!
ep.gif
I am getting maybe a dozen eggs a week right now, so it will take me a while to get that many! Plus I signed up for both the swaps, and need to send those out first. Any chance you might have some button eggs you don't need?
wink.png
I could 'theoretically' hatch 25 chicks at once from my own eggs, if I set 2 weeks worth and all of them hatched, but that is a long shot!

I'll let dad know about the chicks thing. He has already made arrangements to have Larry hatch a bator full of his eggs, if his hens ever start laying real good again. Last fall he was getting 2 dozen a day easy, and now he's lucky to get 8 eggs! I get more from the hens in the yard than he does!

That's cool to know on the bedding, with 20 of them, however, it might get a bit more messy, I ought to pick up a couple more bags.

I have lots of jars, too, but the plastic ones aren't as heavy if they somehow get tipped over, so I figure it would be better. I think mine might all be wide mouth, though, except the half pints (what I am using on the button quail - I need to change that more often, anyway, they are messy for being so small.)

All of my button eggs are in the bator, except two eggs I got today. I have those set to the side on a shelf til I have a full week's worth of them again. I only have two females, so I am only getting two a day. I am hoping to hatch some more females, so I can raise the ratio a bit more.

Oh, I bought some more fans from that guy on ebay - I plan to put fans into both my LGs when they get here. I am hoping that will up my hatch rate, too. I just candled eggs again, and all but two were good in the one LG, haven't candled in the homemade bator, yet. I tossed the two out, and I have 22 eggs left in that bator - hope I have a better hatch than I have had so far. The fans should help, when I get those installed.

Well, hubby wants the computer tonight
lau.gif
so I guess I have to get for for awhile. I may be back later, or tomorrow mornign, anyway.

see ya later.

Well, you don't want to have more than 2 females per male with the buttons.

Oh, and it would probably need to be changed more often, but 2 bags should still last you a month!! You have no idea how absorbent this stuff is! Just put enough in the bottom to cover it, no more than that. All you need to do is fluff it up a couple times a day, cause the stuff on the top will soak all the water up, and the stuff on the bottom will still be dry. Mine was still in pellet form after 5 days!!

Well, right now it is one to one

Bruce saw the silver male trying to mate the splash male tonight
lau.gif
I guess it's a dominance thing. I haven't seen them fight, really, but the silver male is definately the "top boy". I was thinking of throwing in two more females. I know for sure I have two males, though, because I heard them both crowing at the same time today.

I can't wait to get those duckies
big_smile.png
But, depending on how many eggs I have hatch, I'm gonna have a houseful of babies again. I think I need more brooder bins, so I might have to check out Walmart soon. I'll wait and see how many hatch out of the eggs I have in, though. They'll hatch a few days before the ducks come, so I'll know if I need another bin.

I organized the hatching room tonight, still need to organize the supply shelves, but the floor and set-up isn't bad.
