You'd better be getting to walmart then! They have a lot of those plastic totes on sale! I got one today for $7, I think it's like a 36 gallon or so. It was the last one, and didn't have a sticker on it, plus the side was scuffed a little. Big whoop! The ducks don't care! The only thing the are concerned about is that it is bigger! They have some where the christmas stuff was that are on clearance, I think those are 36 or 38's. They are on clearance because they are red, another thing baby birds don't care about!

And your splash and your silver are both males, the only one I wasn't sure about was the other silver, and if you get 2 eggs a day, then she must be a 'she'! Hope that's the same for the ones I have that look like her! I got 4 eggs today, so they are starting to pick up!

Oh, and Cris found a silkie egg in the tractor this morning. It was somewhat soft-shelled, not really soft, but it cracked verrrrrrrrrrrrrry easily! So I opened it to check it. It had a HUMONGOUS bullseye in it!! I set my BamaChicken silkies tonight, so I tossed the 2 from ours in there as well. I only had 3 empty spaces, so I figured what the heck? I put my tiny Nugget egg in there too!

Oh, here's the pic of the nugget egg I told you about. It is a pretty cruddy pic, my batteries were about dead! (Remember, that's a button quail egg next to it!)

Do you still have your BBReds? I am thinking of getting some BBRed hens. I was told that you cross those with white to get red pyle, and since one of the red pyle boys I kept is pure white, I thought I would try it! I had a lot of people say 'I'd like those if you had some hens'. I was like if I had hens, I'd keep them myself!!

Oh, and what about the red pyle hen (s?) that you were gonna let me have? You still have it/them?

I thought you didn't want any of them, so I sold them all to a guy who emailed me and asked for them (he saw on BYC that I had oegb, and wondered if I'd sell them). All the oegb are gone, sorry.

I am wondering if I even want the stoopid Bantam Cochins - I have yet to get ONE egg from any of them, and some of them I KNOW are old enough to lay. I'm getting tired of feeding them with no eggs to hatch. If they don't lay by spring they are going to Sano. I'll give them a couple more months, and that's it. All those cochins and I've never had a single egg from any of them - can you believe that??? They are breeding, too - which is what makes my mind boggle - if they are breeding, you'd think they'd be laying.

If they can't offer me anything, they can get out and make room for other chickens. I'll sell them and buy more geese

The other chickens are at least paying their own way. These cute little fluff balls are simply freeloading. I may keep a pair to just have around to look cute, but I'm not gonna take up a whole coop for non-laying chickens.
I need the space.

Is it possible you have an egg eater in there? Maybe they are laying and just eating them?

Mine aren't laying either. The only pures laying are the silkies, and they just started! Out of my hens, Gertie, the silkie mix, Gretchen, the gold laced something, and Gretta the OEG are the only ones laying. I think Xiang Jiao the OEGB throws one in every now and then, and maybe Emma the EE sometimes, but I doubt it. Gretta the OEG's girl is laying too sometimes, but most of the layers are dad's 'layers'! And of course, there's my Nugget egg! It's sooooo tiny, and the only one so far!

I check every day, multiple times, no sign of even laying in the nest boxes (or on the floor, or anywhere). No sign of yolk on anyone, either. No shell chips lying about, nothing.

Now, the ones I just got from Bluedog might take em a couple weeks to begin to lay, but they are mating - so if they do lay, they ought to be fertile - IF they ever start to lay.

I want them to lay, I dont want to get rid of them, I like the cochins. But the simple fact is, that if they don't produce something, they are worthless to me. They aren't friendly enough to be "pets". I was hoping to get some babies to make into pets - then I wouldn't care so much if they laid or not.

My other chickens, I go outside and they all come running - they aren't lap chickens, by any stretch, but they come and hang out with me. Even Mr. Speckles and his girls will come and hang out a bit when I go into their coop - the cochins stand around and look at me like I'm gonna eat them. Even Rudy, now that he has some women, couldn't care less if I walk into the coop.

At least you can walk in there! If I had mine in a coop, I'm sure the roo would attack me! I have to put gloves on just to get the waterer out of their cage! My skin is so dry now, it wouldn't take much to have me bleeding like a stuck pig!

Horton actually likes me now! I went in there yesterday and he was squeeling as usual. He had just been fed, and didn't need water, so I was talking to him and asking him what was wrong. I reached to scratch his back, and not only did he not jump away, he actually liked it!! He was all stretching his back out like 'Oh yeaaaaaaaaah!! That's the spot!'

OMG!!! I just realized, if those silkie eggs hatch on time, they will be Valentine's babies! How cute is that?? I call the girls either girlfriend or lovey now, that would be so cool! Meri, you really should get some! If you want a pet chicken, that's the way to go! They absolutely LOVE attention!

btw - it's official - the call ducks have decided to move in with the chickens full time.

I don't mind, as long as they don't make too much of a mess in the coop - they get along really well with the chickens, and they're probably safer in the coop at night.

I move their water outside the coop during the day, so they can't mess it up too badly when they are more active.

I was hoping they might bond with the new duckies - but they might not. That's ok, though, they will be smaller than the blues, and I was sort of worried the blues might bully them - well, maybe the boy, but not Bossy - no one dares to bully Bossy - even George jumps out of her way when she comes charging in with her head down
