that's cool, I was wondering if he'd ever stop barking at people.

Oh, he still makes a fuss if Cris tries to get him! I guess he still remembers Cris chasing him around his pen and picking him up! Maybe I should have Cris feed him for a while, then I won't be the only 'food lady'.

btw - it's official - the call ducks have decided to move in with the chickens full time.

I don't mind, as long as they don't make too much of a mess in the coop - they get along really well with the chickens, and they're probably safer in the coop at night.

I move their water outside the coop during the day, so they can't mess it up too badly when they are more active.

I was hoping they might bond with the new duckies - but they might not. That's ok, though, they will be smaller than the blues, and I was sort of worried the blues might bully them - well, maybe the boy, but not Bossy - no one dares to bully Bossy - even George jumps out of her way when she comes charging in with her head down

It would probably be better to not put your calls and the swedish together, especially during breeding season. The swedish will be at least twice as big, and could really hurt the calls if they wanted to get 'frisky'!

I just figured all of them will be free ranging, then stay in the same coop at night. But, the call ducks don't free range much, they spend most of their time hanging out inside the chicken coop

They did come out today a few times, and when it was treat time they came running over with the chickens for treats - even though they won't eat any of the treats, they come along for the company anyway

It's weird, cause they didn't even want to sleep inside when it was really cold, and now they like that coop so much they don't want to leave.

Maybe they're scared of something?

I wouldn't even let calls free range, I'd be so afraid that a hawk would get them! But I'm wanting white calls, if I get any, and they would stick out like a sore thumb!

ETA: Have you tried peas for the calls? I have heard that ducks really like them. Also feeder fish, or worms/grubs/mealworms. They would have to fight the chickens for all the above, but they would probably eat those! Or get some spinach or dark green lettuce and tear it up and toss in their water. Fish food is good too, has a lot of protein, and it floats! Dad has given up on feeding his fish in the pond, the ducks eat most of the food anyway!

They don't seem to be scared, just comfy

I haven't tried peas or greens, I need to try some of those. I have some bok choy I been meaning to take a leaf or two out there to offer them.

Should I do frozen peas? I would think canned peas would have salt added.

eta the pure white calls are pretty, I've seen a lot of pics of them on here.

Frozen peas would work just fine, and they wouldn't mush too badly. Bok choy is a good one too, though I'm not about to buy some just for the ducks! Where would you even get that around here?

I got some at Walmart the other day (well, Napa Cabbage they called it, I call it Bok Choy). I love that stuff!!! great snack when ya don't want something sweet. It wasn't bad on price, either.

Next time I'm in town I'll stop and get some frozen peas. I used to have a bag of them in the freezer, because they make a great ice bag for bruises and strains - and if they thaw out then re-freeze, it's ok, cause no one will eat peas around here

I don't blame them, peas are gross!

Hey, can you proof-read my paper when I get it finished, if it's not last minute like that last one? I have a tendency to read what something I have written is supposed to say, rather than what it actually does! I need to know if it 'flows' smoothly, and makes sense of course!!

I need to go to bed. School hasn't been cancelled yet that I know of. We are supposed to be getting snow, but I think that is for tomorrow night mostly.

sure, I can proof for ya.

What I do is read my stuff aloud to myself, that way I can tell if it flows or not.

Just email it to me when ya get it done - I'm gonna get off here, too. I keep yawning, must be time for bed.

yep, they'll probably cancel school here, but Jon will still have to work, so that means I get to drive in it anyway

that's partly why I liked working for the school, or working at the college - when the schools closed, I got a day off work, too
