Hey Shelley, meant to ask ya, but kept forgetting... where did you get the pop bottle water bases? I looked everywhere for them, couldn"t find them local or at TSC. I ended up ordering some from Randall Burkey, but it irked me that I couldn't find them anywhere

I got a dozen of those plus a dozen of the 1/2 pint feed cups for the coop cages and transport cages. I'll need to have water in those this summer at Sano. The price of the waterers and feed cups was really cheap - the shipping bumped it up, though.

Sano is an auction in Sano, KY that is held every Friday night. There is another auction in the spring in Liberty that might be more to your liking. It is only held twice a year, and it is HUGE!!! I'll let everyone know when that one is to be held.

oh, thanks! that sounds great. now I'll just have to mapquest where Liberty is in relation to Shelbyville. is that auction in march, april or may?

It should be in April from what I have heard, but like I said, I'll post and let everyone know when it is for sure, once I find out. Liberty is NE of here (columbia) about an hour, but it is really big! You can find just about anything there, if you are willing to pay for the good stuff! Nothing like Sano, they practically want you to give them everything there!

I ordered mine from gundogsupply.com. I didn't bother looking locally, I can't ever find anything I want. They could have probably ordered some for you at Day&Day, but I don't know. I got a book from Cackle hatchery yesterday, and they sell them too, but they were cheaper through gundog.
What company are you getting your chicks from? I might want to add to it, if that's okay. That is, if they have anything I want!

I order from Cackle, they already took my money

So, if the silver with the bib doesn't have red vent feathers, then it is most likely a female. She also said that it 'could' be possible for a button to lay 2 eggs in one day, but HIGHLY unlikely. I'm still waiting on her verdict that red vent feathers=boy, but I know I have heard that 100 times!

So if you have 2 silver females, I can trade you a silver boy and a blue face splash girl, for a silver hen and that wild hen!

Oh, btw, does your splash have a 'blue' face? It would be blue face, breast, head and all. I have a pic of one of mine, I'll see if I can find it.

ETA: 'DF' stands for double factor, that means that the chick's parents were both either 1) silver; or 2) carried silver coloring; and that the baby got 2 genes for the silver color.

I'll have to try to get some good pics of them tomorrow.

I was cleaning the other quail cage tonight and two of the girls kept hopping on top of my hand. It made it hard to clean the cage when I was laughing at them. Too bad the buttons aren't that tame.

Mine are!! They run all over me when I put my hand in there! They will even come waltzing right out the door when I have my arm in there, if I don't watch them! The only time they really get freaked is if they get out of the cage or if I am changing the paper. They don't like that at all!!

I'm up to 5 eggs daily from my buttons!

I am almost certain I have 7 girls. One has just been laying for about 3 days. Do yours lay at the same time? I'll check mine, and there will be no eggs in there, go back 30 min. later and there will be at least 4!!

Mine usually both lay in the same spot in the evening, usually about an hour between them

But one started to lay on the other side of the tank, now

which is also why I was wondering, because the blue egg was on the other side of the tank, but the othr two were in the normal place.

I would say you probably have 3 girls, and I would bet it is the two silvers and the wild. The blueface cinnamon did have red vent feathers in the last pics you posted. You can check them, let me find the link that says how to do it.

Ok, hard to take pics cause they don't hold still long enough for my camera

....

definately a red underside this one.

The "boy" silver might be a blue face, definately more bluish than the "girl" silver. The girl silver is more of a white or ivory color down her face and front.
