I figured it would be pretty dead, that's why I didn't bother to go. Plus, I don't have a lot to sell right now, a few roos - next time I go I'll have some ducklings and maybe some chicks to add into the mix.

btw - Shelley, my buttons laid three eggs today - I was sure I had two males and two females, but with that weird colored egg and three of them today, I don't know anymore

I'll just wait and see if I get three eggs tomorrow, I guess (and anymore blue eggs).

I haven't heard the official totals for Shelbyville, but at our house, we had about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2" of ice, depending on where you looked (branches were coated in 1-1/4" but the top of fence posts, etc, were 1-1/2".) And then we received about 5-6 inches of snow in total. And about another 1" this morning. It snowed from about 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. out here.

it was so pretty today when the sun poked out. the trees were simply dazzling.

what is sano? we are looking to add to our flock when spring arrives. We're thinking Delawares would be a friendly breed to add to our flock of buff orps.

That's weird? I know your silver is a male. I think anyway!! Does it (the silver) have red feathers near his butt, or on his breast? I know the splash one did have red vent feathers, which is a for sure boy trait. I guess you'll have to trade me one of the females back then!

Oh, and Meri, the blue egg would have been one that was laid too early. The color is put on in layers, and blue is the first. I guess it would be possible to lay 2 in one day, but I'll have to ask the 'experts' to know for sure.

Sano is an auction in Sano, KY that is held every Friday night. There is another auction in the spring in Liberty that might be more to your liking. It is only held twice a year, and it is HUGE!!! I'll let everyone know when that one is to be held.

I ordered some Delaware pullet chicks from Cackle hatchery for March - I haven't ever seen any out at Sano - not that they aren't there, I just haven't seen em. I have a big Dellie roo (he's a beauty) named Mr. Speckles. Right now he is with a bunch of white Rock and Brahma hens.

Sano is the local auction - it is on the Adair/Russell county line. They have goats and sheep, mainly, but in spring and summer they have more poultry. You can get just about any poultry there you can imagine. It is slow this time of year, though, cause it's so cold and icky out.

a few pages back we posted the address for it, so folks could google map it. (by now it might be 10 or 15 pages back, though, we talk a lot here

I'm sure the silver is a male, it's the splashy colored one I was in doubt about. But we'll see. It may be like ya said, and just be a two in one day egg from one of the girls. You're probably right, as I have never had buttons before and have no clue about how to sex the weird colored ones.

Well, I have been told by many people that red vent feathers is a 'definitely a male' trait.. So I would say one of your girls just popped two out in one day. Like I said, the blue egg is not normal, and it means that the egg was laid too early. They should be mostly brown, maybe with a green tint on them, but the more brown they are, the longer they were inside the hen. The colors are added in layers, like I said before (broken record...I know

) and blue is the first layer. If you have cracked one before, you should have seen that the inside of the egg is blue.
