Ok, it's cool. Kenny said he'd have them look at Sano, and I think they are also going to Eli's to the Amish Auction, so if they don't find anything in either of those places, he'll get back tome, I'm sure

Plus, Kenny goes to Sano every friday night, so he might find some for her, too.

Thanks

I trimmed my Bantam Brahma's spurs and they started to bleed. Kind of scared me because the blood didn't seem to want to stop and he was a little roo. He seemed to be a little weak for a day or two then he was the boss roo again.

I just candled the unhatched eggs and found 9 which had not started to develop. So that leaves 2 unhatched eggs and 15 hatched. One of the unhatched eggs leaked when I picked it up which is a bad sign. It has probably drowned. The really big egg has a huge air pocket so it probably will not hatch.

All of the chicks are some sort of Black Jersey Giant. One has a redish tint to its fur. Yea! That means it is a Jersey roo x NH hen with red tint. Like Rusty. I hope it is a hen so I can cross Rusty with her.

I had watched the video someone posted on twisting the outer husk off - and that is basically what George did to himself - he pulled off the outer husk of the spur - only not as gently as he would have liked
lau.gif

If I cut it, it would be blunt and maybe that would be better - it took the spur down by half it's size - but left it pointed, like a spur is naturally.

I'm just glad he didn't break a leg or dislocate a hip or something.
George is my buddy, I'd hate to lose him.

I actually shouldn't be up this late, I have been trying to not fall asleep for about 3 hours now! Trying to get homework done, and fighting with my kid as usual. I can't seem to wrap my brain around what I'm supposed to do for my hw, so I guess this one will be late. At least it's not worth too many points, considering the classes just started.

I've been pretty good, I think

Overrun with chicks and chickens as usual, but other than that, nothing out of the ordinary! Haven't seen you on here in a while, what have you been up to?

Well, all, I dont feel all that great (again - been half sick all week, off and on) I think I'm gonna go to bed - got to wrangle two geese tomorrow to try to put them into a cage - what fun

I have read on here that you can take a potato and cut it in half, then screw it onto the spur like a light bulb. It is supposed to twist the excess right off, with no trauma. Better than cutting

Go catch them now while they are sleeping, at least they can't get away as easily.

I have to go cover a broody that has decided to nest in the yard near the woods
roll.png
I guess that's okay, seeing as most of the nest buckets/boxes/cages have broodies in them already.
smile.png
So this makes #6 that is setting, and one more with babies. I can't believe I didn't show the babies to you today Meri!!

Croney!! Ya should have come to Sano tonight, I got 5 call duck babies (about three days old) for 2 bucks each!! I should have bought them all, but stoop!d me, didn't think til after, and they had sold by the time I got back.

They're a color I didn't have, too
big_smile.png
They look like tiny mallards, so I assume that is what they'll come out like after feathering in. Maybe greys (one is lighter colored than the others) and I got one baby that looks like Sloopy (that I hatched) so I have two, now, that are gonna be black swedish pattern looking.

I am addicted to these darn call ducks
lau.gif

I love my swedish, but shoot, I may either have to have hubby build me another pen, or sell the swedish to make room for all the calls I keep getting
lau.gif

Naw, I got room for all of em, the calls don't take up too much space
wink.png

So, now my count on call ducks is 10 -- woohoo!!! and more eggs in the bator
big_smile.png

I hope those white ones hatch!! I don't have whites, yet.

Oh and I sold Benny and Joon - for half of what I paid, but they are gone at least, and things can get back to normal around here.

The babies in the brooder coop sure do love having a run to play outside in.
wink.png
(benny and joon were in the run "in jail" for attacking that broody hen in her own coop).

lau.gif
hubby made a face at me when I came over carrying those baby call ducks - but then a half hour later, he says "you should have bought them all"

Yeah, NOW he tells me
lau.gif
I was trying to have some self control and only get 5 of them

got a pic..

actually it wasn't that bad catching them, since I had them in the chicken run already - although Joon did spray me with poopy smelly water off her wings - so I had to shower afterwards before I went to the auction

I can see how that would work, by softening it up, because it just stripped right off, like an outter sheath of hard fingernail or something. It had a "core" spur underneath, about half the size of the one you could see.

Well I would of loved to have been at Sano. My friend went. Said there was some baby silkies which he let get gone. He did bring me a pigeon. I have one without a mate. But yes you should have gotten all of the call ducks. I will get me some one day. It will be another week before I get to go. Then I have to see what is going on.
Oh yeah while I am thinking about it. June 20th there is a local auction barn for miniature horses that is going to have a small animal auction. Poultry, goats, and animal related stuff. It is close to the intersection of 70 and 39. I will try to get the address so people can google it. But I am going to try to come up with some stuff to sale. If anyone is looking for mini horses or little donkeys they are having a sale June 6th.
