Does anyone know when earthworm mating season takes place? I am finding a lot of large earthworm holes with little piles of dirt about an inch or two away from them, and it is the dark of the moon. So I was wondering would anyone know?

Last year at the dark of the moon I went out to close my chicken coop door and found a pair of earthworm about every square foot hooked up mating. Earthworms carry both sexes so can mate with any other earthworm. I am just curious.

I never thought about it either, but maybe you just got some freaky worms!

Those little mounds are called casings, which is actually worm poop.

Be glad you've got earthworms, they are great for gardens, loosening the soil for the plants to spread roots. I wish I had a bunch of them in my yard for my garden. You can also use them in the compost pile to help turn it and breakdown the plant material in it.

Does anybody on here know of somebody who can repair a log barn? I need to get some estimates on how much it would cost to repair the barn at the farm, I need to know if it is salvageable or should I just have it torn down and replace it with a series of smaller buildings.

Meri sorry to hear about you losing the calf.

Well, Tony shot a bobcat tonight on it's way to our barns (and probably my duck/geese pens

) There were three of them, and he only got the one. The guys were out there getting hay in out of the field yet at dusk when he saw them. Luckily he'd been hunting that morning and had his gun in the truck right next to him.

I'll get a pic tomorrow if it's still out by the coop - not sure if some other pred will grab it (or Toby) or not. Makes me worry about the ducks and geese. It was a small one - Tony said there was a big one with two smaller ones, probably a Mama and her kits. Jamie saw a huge one this last summer crossing the same hayfield, probably part of the same family unit.

The fur is very soft, I may process it for the skull, not sure though - depends on if I have time to work with it. I think I gave my other bobcat skull to Layne - so I could use another one

Or was it the skunk skull that I gave him? I hear his dog ate it

so unless I go look to see which ones I have still, we'll never know, probably.

This has been the longest day! and I have yet to cook dinner. I've been running since 6:30 this morning. Which reminds me, Shelley, how's the chickie doing tonight?

We thought we were done after putting up all that hay (after dark) but then I remembered I had feed in the truck to unload

. I just want to eat dinner and go to bed.

I bought some buff silkies from fattie on here a few months ago. They are young, probably about 5 months old now. Anyway, I noticed one of them acting 'weird' the other day, but didn't think anything of it. Yesterday, I noticed she was limping, so I picked her up to see what's what. Apparently fattie puts those metal (wire) leg bands on her birds, and forgot to mention this to me. I didn't think to look, since the only time I've had any with leg bands, I knew they had them. So the leg band was cutting into her poor little leg

Meri came over today, and got it off her for me. She was laying around a lot (probably from the meds she was given), but she should be fine.

This is the prettiest one, so I'm glad I didn't lose her to something so stupid. The other one doesn't have a leg band, so I'm thinking fattie took it off, but forgot about the other one.

She seems to be doing okay, I had to show her how to get back into her pen, since the poor thing can't see worth a crap with all that fluff. I'm thinking I"ll bring her inside for a day or two, just so she can recover. At least it's warmer in here than it is out there.

I have neither

The one time I thought to ask for bluekote at Day & Day they were out. I never think of it when I'm there

Okay, you guys need to help keep me on track. I've gotten verrrrrrry bad at remembering when I set eggs. It would be very easy to write it on the calendar, but I never remember to.

So anyway, I've got these 40 some quail eggs just sitting here. I can't sell them, since I'm getting like 2 or 3 eggs a day. Plus I don't know how fertile they are, since it's so late in the year. So I figured I'd go ahead and set them, since they sold pretty decent at Liberty. They have another auction in the spring, so I figure rather than tossing these eggs, I'd just set them and see what happens

So "I'm" due on the 3rd of December, so you all can help me remember

Oops!! When was it, October? At least it's both of you forgetting, so neither of you can be mad at the other over it

So what was for dinner? I was a busy-body today, and made some country fried steaks and white gravy.....

Of course, it was only my second time making homemade gravy, so I have enough left over to last me till I DIE, but it worked out
