Don't spend a lot, though, hubby would kill me if I spent too much on chickens with a bator about to be chock full of eggs tomorrow. I already owe ya for the jap girl, and the cochin duo, umm.... if ya do find anything maybe around 20 bucks max? (well, 25 if ya have to pay that much, but be sure they are VERY nice if ya spend that much.) Blues would be very cool, but any color really.

ETA - if you can find a trio then 30 bucks max

LOL I'll be owing you half a Benjamin before I'm done.

I am such a sucker.....

You don't have to give me anything for the jap girl, just make sure I'm first on your list for eggs!!

What about a pot-belly? You still want one of those? They are supposed to have about everything there! Idk, though, it is an amish sale, so they might have them, you never know!

Yes, we are experienced enablers.

Cindy's the worst of us, though.... sneaky woman got me hooked on Cochins.

Here I was, all set to say No, then she reaches into her "box o' many chickens" and pulls out this fluffy white thing that looked so much like a stuffed animal and I wanted to grab it and snuggle.....

Hubby just said "take it, you know you want to".

Hmm... come to think of it, he's an enabler too
lau.gif

He builds me endless coops, so I have to fill them, of course.

Earlier last summer he asked me if I was done buying chickens - then he built me a 4 cell chicken coop.

Hmm... maybe his dirty little secret is he really likes the chickens (I know Spazz likes him,

) and he is hoping I'll buy more and more and more.....

Now, how could I disappoint the man?

Naw, I'd better wait on the pot bellied pig - hubby wants to get 6 regular pigs, LOL he says I have enough "pets". He means the donkeys - but HE is the one who wanted most of them. I would have been happy to stop at Butters.

He insisted on Blackjack - who is HIS baby, and then we ended up with four more!!!

Speaking of Donkeys - Mama is getting REALLY wide, I can't wait to see her baby when it comes. I'll take lots of pics - supposedly it isn't even due until April or May. I don't know, she sure is getting big. I hope it's a spotted (and not another jack).

Oh, and you can have all the jap eggs you can handle, LOL.

I'll save the first dozen for ya. (or however many they will lay in a week.)

ETA is it strictly an Amish sale or is a Consignment sale? Usually at Consignments you can find just about anything.

Also ETA - if they have a box of cochin babies, then go as high as 30

ESTPR13 - How large do Jersey giants actually get? Like the size of a giant Cochin or BR or bigger?

Cindy

Don't know... I've never been around a Cochin or Bared Rock. These are only about 4 months old. I got them because I bought some Jersey x NH chicks last year and have a very large handsome roo and two friendly hens who are very consistant layers of large brown eggs. So I thought I'd try to cross some on my own.

Right now the Jerseys look like I've been starving them even tho they have a 25 # feeder in the coop with all the food they want. From what I've learned, during their first year they put most of their energy into making a large frame. Then during their second year they get meaty.

Last time I weighed them they weighed about 3 pounds, and are as tall as a normal chicken... Just thin and bony looking.

My New Hampshires are 11 weeks old today and are just now starting to loose the buff coloring and are starting to turn a mahagany color. They are very energetic and so far well behaved.

I've discovered from BYC posters that the NH roos may become a handfull. I'll have to keep an eye on them.
I don't tolerate a mean roo. Protective, scared, or somwhat aggressive I can handle. But not delibertly mean.

I was told it is a consignment auction, whatever that means. But they also said it is held by the amish, so idk.

You won't be spending much! I think I'm down to about $30 bucks, unless I stop at the P.O. on the way and cash that M.O.!! But if I do that I would want to spend it, and I really need to hold back!

Didja save me those two babies?

Cindy

The B&W and the splash? Of course!! Those are still in the brooder box, so they don't count...yet! They are too little to let some idiot get them that would just throw them in a cage or something. I think those two might be a month old now, but I'm not sure. But I still have a LOT of babies!! The ones I sold were the oldest. There were 31, Meri got 5, another BYCer got 5(not sure what his handle is) and the hawk got 5. So I had 16 to go bye-bye. Poor mama hen was so sad! She was just standing in the rain looking lost! I wanted to get the babies out of the cage and give them back! I don't think I'll let any set next year!

I had NH Roos (6 of them) beautiful birds - but the nastiest things I've ever known.

Every single one of them was so aggressive they would attack dead things!! One attacked my donkey, and a cow. Now THAT is agressive
lau.gif
.

My rooster I have now (had before them), George, hates red roosters now - I can't have a red rooster anywhere on the property or he goes nuts. He is normally very gentle, just doesn't like red roos. Can't say as I blame him.

Those roos would walk around doing the head thing (the "Oh no you didn't" move) looking for a fight with anything that crossed their path.

I have one NH hen who is ok, a good broody and Mama, but even she is a bit weird in the head. Maybe it's just the breed.

The lady I got them from loved NH red - said they were the most gentle chicken she'd ever had. But then, she also swore to me that the 6 cockerels were pullets almost ready to lay

I was a noob, and stoopid. I believed her.

Hope you have better luck with them.
