Kentucky people

I've got chicks in the brooder and eggs in the bator! I figured since I'll have to use the brooder for the chicks anyway, might as well hatch some more!

<edit> Plus if my OEG hen thinks it's ok to hatch chicks now (she's due in a week), then it's ok for me too!

Well, I got this new incubator and ya know I just HAD to test it. (plus, I'm having a hard time finding cochins - seems everyone wants cochins, they always beat me to them.)

I haven't checked into the delawares for meat birds. I'll have to do that. I'm trying to come up with a dual purpose birds (of sorts) a mutt that will give me decent meat within a decent amount of time, also. (not a super chicken with health issues that matures almost as soon as it is hatched).

LOL I've been on ebay when no one has bid on me - it s a lonely place

Good luck on your hatch, too, and I'll be interested as to how your crossed chicken turns out for meat.

Shelley - I put the new cochins into the banty coop this morning - hoping there is more room and more places for them to get away

poor babies.

I went out to let George and Company out this morning, and James was chasing the new guy around the coop. When they finally stopped, the new guy and girl closed their eyes like they needed some sleep - I take it that James has been at this since first light.

I put them inside the banty coop, and shooed the boys outside - so the new ones could eat something, at least. Not sure how long it'll last, but they have a little better chance of being ignored up there. If it gets too bad, heck, I'll throw James into the banty coop - see how they like that!!

(James can be a bit of a bully.)

I'll try to get soem pics of the newbies later on.

Loretta was being a pain this morning, thinking of turning him out to just free range with everyone else. I really need to find someone who wants him

Hey - anyone on here want a modern game cockerel with gender issues?

I got to go take Jon to work, will be back in a bit.

Peace -

Well, it's like this...Meri has this cozy warm huge coop to keep them all in until they get big enough to put out...And I'm gonna help with feed and bring two more brooder lights as well. So no hawk/critter danger and still plenty of room to run. Then when it's time, she gets to keep the ones from my flock minus a few for other folks and some from my bought BYC and Ebay eggs if she wants and I'm going to pick up the others and bring them home. And like you I'm such a sucker for the ones not bid on, especially if it is something I've been wanting. Got some porcelain D'Uccle eggs off Ebay, bid on her other batch and someone outbid me so was hoping to have good luck since it was only 3, well she ended up sending me 5 + 2 BBRs so I'm happy. Fun Winter hobby...DH just doesn't understand though...But oh well.

I just knew it! Never fails, the prettiest ones are ALWAYS boys! I'll understand if you don't want him! I have a few more that are in there of hers, plus I have eggs in the bator of hers, as well as eggs that will be going in today, so let me know. The little blue splash looks very much like a girl. Can't detect any comb at all!

Figures...That my luck...Yeah go ahead and sell him if you want, I don't think you'd have much difficulty. I want to see a new pic of him though when you get a chance, he was so pretty as a baby

I can hold on to him for a while, just to make sure he is a boy. But with that comb, and since he is only about a month old, I would say he is a boy.

Here's a comb shot...

And here's his pretty wings...

Here's some pics of the splash chick. These two were hatched within a few days of each other, so this one looks pretty girly!

Aww they're so pretty!!! I'm still trying to decide when to bring the chicks over to Meris...If I should do it all at once around Thanksgiving or in two bunches. I will have a hatch pretty much per week til the middle or 3rd week of November. I may do two bunches so I can go visit you too.

Coco update! He's doing great, but wearing my arm down with all the fetching! He's gotten alot better with the cat and won't go near him when I tell him NO! Thanks again!
