Wow. It is cold this morning - I had a teensy bit of freeze on top of the water tanks.
I ran two heat lamps in the bottom coop last night, just to see how they'd do. As usual I ran one heat lamp up top coop. I'm going to Day & Day today (didn't get to go yesterday) and I'm gonna grab another couple of lamps. I'd like to try to run just heat lamps this winter instead of the heater in the big coop.
Ya see, all of those buildings (both coops, the shed, the barn) are on the same circuit - and I will have water trough heaters going, to save me from having frozen water troughs for the donkeys - those pull a lot of amps. The heater also would pull a lot of amps - I'd be just above capacity on that circuit if I run the heater plus heat lamps, plus water heaters.
Bruce says if he'd known that we were gonna put so many buildings out that way, he'd have had two lines runs in that direction.
Since it got so dang cold, I'll probably put the babies in my sewing room until they get a little bigger - I'll just set up the playpen for them. I didn't expect it to be this cold this early.
Oh, and I put Nana down in the bottom coop with the cochins again - this time she is doing great, she loves the new two that I got from Shelley. She hangs out pretty close to that roo most of the time. But I tried to put Hoss back in and he ran back and forth on the fence, while the spitzs did the same, trying to get to him -
he likes them better than the other cochins, so I put him back with them. I would have been pushing it on roos in that coop anyway, so no biggie.
I'm gonna grab some electrolites at D&D today, too, just to boost them all a bit, since it got cold so fast, I don't want them to be vulnerable to any bugs. I'd rather keep them going good than have to fix something later. The new ones were probably a bit stressed anyway when they got here. I figure it won't hurt a thing to put it into their water.
I still need to get some pics of the new guys - maybe I'll go do that now. The really are beautiful.
Oh, and Shelley, the new jap is doing good - she doesn't always hang with the other three, but she does hang with the blue splashes during the day a lot, so she isn't alone. I'm sure she'll catch up on growth, too, she probably just spent so much time chasing the other two around at your place she didn't stop to eat as much.
Well, gonna go take pics....
Be back -
Meri
