Didja save me those two babies?

Cindy

The B&W and the splash? Of course!! Those are still in the brooder box, so they don't count...yet! They are too little to let some idiot get them that would just throw them in a cage or something. I think those two might be a month old now, but I'm not sure. But I still have a LOT of babies!! The ones I sold were the oldest. There were 31, Meri got 5, another BYCer got 5(not sure what his handle is) and the hawk got 5. So I had 16 to go bye-bye. Poor mama hen was so sad! She was just standing in the rain looking lost! I wanted to get the babies out of the cage and give them back! I don't think I'll let any set next year!

Good morning Meri, Get any sleep last night? I was up a couple times checking the eggs in the hatcher...That one egg is peeping that pipped the side of its shell so maybe it found the air sac after it pipped. Thought I was hearing things at first...My first pipped peeper. My Ameraucanas didn't make a sound til they started zipping so was surprised to hear a shell peep.

Well, gonna check a couple more posts then gotta get busy for the day, haven't had my coffee yet either. When it's quiet like this I can barely hear the male Millie crowing. Getting worried about Raoul and Little Man, they are still hoarse and can't crow. Little Man just squeaks so he hasn't been crowing much. My Oxine came in yesterday so I mixed some last night and am going to spray it in their faces then mist the rest of the coop and flock.

I love EEs just got 6 in the Oct swap...They are huge! Send what you want to, the more the merrier, I really do appreciate it. More than likely all my LF hens I have now will be bred by my BR...And I also have some Japs and Dutches that play together...Plus pure Millies. If you see anything you'd like in the Spring LMK, there is pure BR too...I have one female of that breed and Bess and Raoul are the sweetest birds.

Thanks again, Cindy

ETA: My son is now in 4-H and we are going to show a chicken and a Call Duck, when there are shows...We're still new at the 4-H and he hasn't recieved his workbook yet. He gets that in November meeting. I don't know yet how many of either he can show at a time.

I finally got to bed about (I think) 6:30 - my time - so 7:30 your time, LOL.

I set the eggs at about 1 A.M. then sat reading (good book, couldn't put it down) until I finished my book at about 5:45-ish and then popped on here, LOL.

But, there was much Joy in Chickenville this morning, the sun had come out and so could the chickens.

BTW - I'm getting old

I was trying to read last night (as far back as I could put my arms) and hubby gave me his reading glasses to try - amazing difference!! LOL Guess I need to get some reading glasses. It is much more comfortable to hold the book when your arms aren't extended to their full length.

I am such an idiot!! I totally forgot about that packing material until I was halfway back to town!! I couldn't believe it! If you want to hold onto it for a bit, I'll come back another day to get it. It won't help with my first shipment, but I will have to send some more on Wednesday probably, then some more next week. How stupid!!! That's why I came over tonight instead of Monday!

I didn't notice until I got back from taking Jon home from work. Yeah, I'll just stash it in the sewing room.

Those cochins ya got me are prettier in person than in the pic - I'll get some pics of them tomorrow for everyone (and for the Cochin thread).

Now I have six bantam cochins - three boys and three girls.

I hope the new guys get along with James and Etta. Maybe I'll try putting Nana and Hoss back in there, and confuse them enough not to know who to pick on for too long (spread the love,

).

That little Jap went right into the group, eh? LOL it was cute how they all stood up and sort of invited her into their little bunch. I was hoping she would just get right in with them, and not be "odd bird out".

So how'd ya like the coops? hard to see them very well in the dark,

If you or your dad want some of my australorp eggs to hatch, I can save some for ya. (they'd be mixed with George, but still would be pretty, I think) I have some in the bator from the australorps and george - so you can see how they'll turn out before ya go in for hatching (that is, if you guys want them, not pushing them on ya, LOL.)

I love the australorps, they are the funniest chickens I have. Those are the ones who come right up on the porch (climbing over Lily to get there, sometimes) looking for treats. I call them my Fat Girls. They come running whenever I come out the door looking for food

Well, I'm gonna go to bed early tonight, since I hardly got any sleep at all last night, and Jon has to be at work early tomorrow.

I'll be glad when that kid gets his driver's license.

Night all -

Hey!!! My pipped peeper hatched sometime today. We got back from the swim meet, I went down to show Cortni it was pipped and lo and behold there was a baby chickie, teeny little thing. Very feisty though...It was working very hard at trying to escape the hatcher. My first to hatch BR egg has a pip now so Bess and Raoul will be parents soon. I went ahead and moved the baby to the brooder box I have set up...Wasn't as prepared as I thought so had to improvise with a brooder light with 60W bulb lying on its side in a small plastic bin and the top to an old borrowed incubator I had once tried to use as a hatcher(it is running full power and between it and the brooder light the temp in the bin is staying exactly 95.

Coolness, glad he made it out!!
Give a day's notice before bringing babies over so I can set up here for them.

I have to work on the corral tomorrow, supposed to be nice out. Maybe I can swap some chickens around monday and put up that tarp. (if you are coming monday or so, though, I can do it before that. won't take long - just hard to catch them when they aren't ready for bed

)

I'm thinking of putting the spitzs up in the bantam coop - even though they are bigger, I think they'll get along ok, since the spitzs sort of do their own thing, usually. They get along great with Hoss, but I'm wanting to put all the cochins into one coop. If not, I'll put them in with the cochins - they are the only ones who'll be up on the perch that way

Oh and I need to hit Day & Day monday to get some more wood shavings....

I better make a list, LOL.

Cthrash and Chiknmama!

What are you two doing running your bators this time of year? Don't you know that it's getting cold outside and hawks and other critters are just looking for easy little things to eat?

You all must have a disease of the head or something... At least that's my excuse. I have a dozen Deleware x Cornish in my bator, due to hatch in 13 days.

What can I say... They were on ebay and I was the only bidder so I just have to hatch them. I mean... wouldn't you feel bad if you were on ebay and no one bid on you?

Actually I'm currious about these being an alternative meat bird to the Cornish cross. Except these use cornish hens and a Delaware roo. Much slower growth and supposedly better tasting. Well we'll see.

Good luck on your hatches.
