They had a little of it, but got over it really quickly - Diva was ill for a couple of days, Rudy just a tiny bit snotty for a day - I figured it was dust and stress - didn't think anything about it until James got snotty, then the Jap got swollen sinuses. (I had Diva in the brooder cage in the banty pen, that is how the banty pen got any of it.)
I don't think they got it from your flock, and if yours is fine, then I wouldn't worry about it - I don't know where it came from, to be honest.
The jap reacted the worst to it, but it has been so dry, maybe it is just dust irritation, or maybe I got a mold problem that I can't see?
It seems like any of them that had snotty noses (beaks,
) got over it in a couple of days with just some vinegar or vitamins in the water. It has been so dry and dusty here, and the donkeys kick up a lot of dust when they run around out back.
The Jap was really healthy, then all of a sudden his sinuses just swelled up. He doesn't act sick other than that - he's eating, running around, drinking fine, just has swollen sinuses. That's why I think it looks worse than it probably is. But I've never seen sinuses that swollen, poor baby, so I sort of went into panic mode and gave them antibiotics right off after I saw him.
He seems to be doing ok, just swollen still. I don't know what it is, really - it's perplexing.
I do think that maybe since none of the bigger chickens have it, it must be something to do with the dust, or some such, because the banties are closer to the ground. (? just guessing ?)
You would think if it were something highly contageous then all of my chickens would have it, and not just some of them (not even all the banties have it, just a couple of them). Maybe it is something that one of the birds is a carrier for - shows no signs but infects everyone else?
Heck, I don't have a clue.
I'll go change out the water right now for them.
ETA I got mice really badly around here - would they make the chickens sick?
