I could just kick myself!! I had been waiting and waiting for Duchess to get off the nest. This is the little black dutch hen, I decided to go ahead and name her, rather than calling her the little black hen
lol.png
Anyway, she lays an egg like every day for about 4 or 5 days, then she skips a day, then lays again. the only other hen laying is Gertie, and she lays daily for about a month straight!

So anyway, yesterday was her skipped day, and I keep watching and waiting because all the other hens end up hiding their nests sooner or later. So she finally gets off the nest, and in my excitement to find two eggs in the nest, I DROPPED HER EGG!!!

I could so kick myself right now!!

Not sure how many banties he'll want, I am trying to talk him into some, though. He has chickens for eggs, mostly, so he isn't much into the banty eggs - although, at that picnic he is the one who ate all of the banty devilled eggs

- he said they were perfect, bite sized devilled eggs, he loved them.

- hubby is watching "Rocky 2, I think it's 2 - anyway, he just yelled to me "Hey, Rocky's chasing a chicken for part of his training", he's laughing - he's seen me do it enough times.

Anyway, back to topic....

I just treated mine today, too. I tried to put it off, but I still have a couple who showed some snotty noses this week, so I figure I'd better just give them the antibiotics and "nip it in the bud" (as Barney Fife would say). One of the little Jap boys has swollen sinuses on one side. No sores or fowl stench, so it's not coryza, just a sinus infection, I think. His eye isn't affected just the flesh around the eye is puffy. I figured I'd better stop that one fast, since he is one of the keepers.

I think maybe Rudy and Diva came with something extra - they seem ok, but it is only since they got here that the other two got snotty. Rudy was a little snotty the first day here, but it cleared right up on it's own - so I figured it was dust and stress.

I hope Shelley didn't have them in with any of hers. If so, ya might want to be ready with the antibiotics, Shelley.

I've never had to use antibiotics before - always cleared anything up with some vinegar added to the water, or with some vitamins. It's just the one Jap and James, so I am hoping it doesn't go further than that. James seemed to be pretty good today, not nearly as snotty (this was before the antibiotics) which is why I don't think it is very serious - but better safe than sorry. He even came out of the cage and snuggled a bit with me tonight when I gave him his medicine water. I think he wants to go back with his buddies in the cochin coop, so he's trying to be extra lovable

I treated the whole banty coop (which is where James is right now) and will probably treat the cochin coop tomorrow. So any banties I have, will be covered for the sinus infections once the antibiotics are done with.

Needless to say, no one is gonna want to take any of the banties til I'm done with the antibiotics.

Oh, btw, Cindy, my eggs are due to begin hatch the weekend of the 15th, so maybe you'll get to see some of my babies

I have some vitamins to put in the brooders water, when they get here, I bought two extra heat bulbs, in case any blow out, and I have a new brooder feed dish that is longer, so they have more room to get to the food. I just need to bring in the playpen next week to get it all set up. I wish I could talk hubby into letting me put an eye hook in the ceiling to hang the lamp from - maybe I'll just do it and not tell him til it's done

.

Well, I stayed up way too late last night, was reading a book. This one is written by some pentacostal preacher about demons and deliverance (exorcism) - it's actually sort of interesting

Well, night all -

That's ok, no rush. I need to make a list of all the different breeds I have, and am getting!! I have dutch; OEGB splash and blue, and red pyle; OEG standard; and white nonbearded silkie. Plus I have signed up for BLRW, Black Copper Marans, frizzled bantam polish, BTW japs from Meri
wink.png
, Millie's from you; BBRed Cubalayas; I think that's it
th.gif
Plus my oddballs! And I have 2 different types of quail that will need outside pens!!
The coop design I posted earlier only has room for 2 large breed and 6 bantam breeds, plus 6 pens for quail and babies. I will have 7 small and 4 large, if I get them all!! I could modify it enough to fit the 7 small breeds, but I would need to make it longer to accomidate the large breeds and the oddballs!

I did that with one of Mooney's eggs a couple weeks ago, I was gonna put it into the bator, but I dropped it.

she happened to be standing there when I took it and she just looked at me with the stink eye like I had thrown away her hard work.

Poor girl

OMG!! I wish you guys were here to see this!! I have one OEG chick that hatched 2 days ago in a box in the bedroom. I also have one that just hatched about 2 hours ago in the same box. The older one is so quiet, it never cries or anything. Of course it is scared to death of the new baby. But that's not it. I have a small mirror in there for the bigger one, to keep it company. The new one keeps flopping around and knocking the mirror over. Every time it does, the older one, who is so quiet, throws a fit and starts crying up a storm!! It's like 'OMG!!! OMG!!! Where'd my buddy GO???' It is hilarious!!

BTW, Happy anniversary Cindy!! I can't imagine being with someone that long, thank God I'm divorced!!

Keep your fingers crossed that they don't freeze before they leave Alaska!!

Thanks for the Anniversary wishes...

Meri You can give the Millies to Shelley if you want they will be yours to do with as you please...I own the parents so I can get babies anytime pretty much.

Shelley that is a great idea about the mirror, I might have to do that for the Serama chick for a little while. It has a small teddy bear but doesn't go anywhere near it. And congrats on finding some buttons

Hello all Ky People...

I wanted to let my fellow ky people know first I have 3 silkies for sale.

I have one guy who is about 2 years old. He is white, He is proven fertile and is a great looking guy. His only fault is his comb is red and not mulberry but bred to a good hen he throws awesome babies.
I am asking $5 for him.

I have a 12 week old chick also white not sure on sex I am asking $3 for. Beautiful chick

I also have a roo free to a good home only he is not breeding nor show quality PET ONLY. he is very friendly he has a single comb and has curled toes. He would make a child a wonderful pet. PET HOME ONLY NOT FOR KILLING.

If interested in any of these guys e-mail me at [email protected] I can send pics!

Thank you!

Oh BTW i am located about an hour east of lexington.

But will be in lexington friday around 1:00p.m if anyone is interested in these guys.

Hi TeresaAnn Good luck selling your chickies...They sound really pretty. I the curly toes one a Silkie too? Someone also has opened a Ky BST thread in the BST blog where you can post there too, don't remember if it was the egg one or the chickens one right off hand though.

Have a great evening, Cindy

yeah he is a silkie too he is a nice one too. I was bummed when he turned out with a single comb. I believe his curled toes happened when the roo stepped on him as a chick. I doubt it would bother him breeding but I wouldnt wanna take a chance with breeding him with the single comb even with a nice hen. So I am just offering him for free. I did have an adoption fee on him but it was just to ensure a good home. If anyone is gonna pay money for a bird they intend to take care of it. I just wanna see him go to a good home. I all I'd care about i'd keep him if I was only keeping them as pets and I was for the most part But. By spring i'd like to start a good breeding line and offer chicks and hatching eggs to people and I want my line to be real nice and pure to the standard of a silkie.
