Kentucky people

I would love to come by. Where are you? I am in Somerset at least every other week. I live up 39 in Eubank. You will have to come check my babies out when you need a country ride.

Do you ever go to the stockyard on Friday morning. I understand there are the occassional selection of chickens. I havent made it there yet. But I really like going to London on Tuesday morning.

What stockyard? You mean I've been missing out on opportunities? One of these Fridays I'm going to go with Meri and Shelley to the auction where they live. Didn't know we had anything our way.

We live out 80W toward Nancy...Not too far out. We were just up your way a couple weeks ago. My son and I went to a livestock field day for 4-H...It was very interesting. Can't remember the owners name right off but he had a lot of cattle and it was his business.

Well, hmmm...Learn something new all the time...Let me see, how many times have I driven out that way before the new road? Oh hundreds duh!! And it's on Fridays? What time does it start? How far past Somersplash? Past Pauls or before it? So many questions huh...

Good Morning Kentucky people!!! Cindy

Oh how I miss Kentucky! We just went back for a visit in March, while I was there I made a trip the Shepherdsville Auction, where they have the chickens on Saturday mornings. It was COLD! But I did bring back some eggs for hatching....

Cindy, Please tell your mother I got the pattern today and thank you VERY much!

Hey I graduated from Bullitt Central in Shepherdsville! Still keep in touch with a couple of friends I found throughout the years(many years).

I'll let her know...Hope you like it.

Thanks Tubbychicken! Especially the info about the meat and eggs.

If these chickens are being spread around Kentucky and other places then we all should be on the look out. Several of my chickens are from Tenn as eggs.

What do the lesions look like? How do you tell the difference between them and feather picking wounds? I have one roo with more missing feathers than the other four and think I need to look him over more closely.

I have taken several college classes on etiology of diseases (human) and my morbid curiosity has been aroused. I'm also a bit of a worry wart.

Also I think that direct sunlight would help break down the viral DNA in a chicken run. But only on the surface and how long it would take and the time of year could be factors.

This is a tumor from Avian Leukosis on a BLRW pullet I bought from that guy:

That's the bird that I took for a necropsy. The inside was apparently tumor filled. One of the signs was that I couldn't feel her breastbone, and her body was really fat with a tiny head.

Here is another bird (who died today actually

) suffering from infectious coryza which his birds also spread to my little flock.

By the way, someone mentioned to us that he has sold birds in London before...so watch out for him there!

I wish I had a picture of him to post. He's a big guy named David...I would honestly describe him as obese. He has a red dodge truck. He has a son or grandson who is probably high school aged named Tyler. I think they call their chicken business Tyler's Emporium. When I bought from him he had Golden Comets, black mutt bantams he said were Black Faverolles, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, I think he had guineas, and a bunch of other chickens too. He also had turkeys.

Stevie Ray is the birchen oegb with the two pullets you said looked like your multi toed one - the guy who has been dubbed. (silver and black) I got him and the girls from Cindy just a little while ago.

I named him after Stevie Ray Vaughan

and the girls are Double and Trouble. Trouble is the one who likes to announce herself to the world (especially if she has a treat that no one else has - like she's saying "na na na na naaa naaaa")

Yeah, I pretty much grabbed any banty I could find. That is not the way to build your flock, apparently

I like the oegb, it is just that I would rather work with some other chicken breeds - something not as common. Around here, oegb are as common as can be. I don't know anyone near me (besides you and Cindy) who have or had Japs or Cochins. The oegb are pretty, and cute, and funny to hang with, but I just want to be different, I guess

However, I DO want to find good homes for the ones I'm swapping or selling, I don't just want to "get rid of them".

I am not completely sure. It starts early probably 7 ish. I am not sure how far past somersplash, but it is on the old road. It sets back a little but I think there is signs. I have only been there once but a silky raiser friend sells hers there.

I went to London stockyards this morning but still did not find any silkies or cochins. But they had alot of regular chickens.

They are so pretty, they'd love it at your place. I just don't need them if I am getting rid of any boys to mate them with.

Like I said, I have to be brutal. If for no other reason than I have to feed all these little buggars - and I can't keep every chicken I see - whether I want to or not.

It is gonna be hard getting rid of the Spitz boys - seriously, they are the funniest dang chickens I've ever seen. They make me giggle every morning. If they weren't all boys, I'd keep one pullet just to watch her running around the yard. Heck, if I could find a pullet, I'd keep her and one boy to run around the yard. If I let them out to freerange I'd probably never get them back into the coop again, anyway,

they'd sleep in the barn or some such. They really don't like being cooped up, and would rather sleep in a tree or outside on a perch if they can.

I'm gonna have to do a drive by this week so I know where I'm going when Friday gets here.

Hey Meri, I'll check this stockyard out and if chickens are selling good I'll let you know. Maybe you can bring yours over here to sell. Put some new blood in our neck of the woods.
