Kentucky people

I live in PRP area of Louisville with my husband, two old cats and two dogs! We are adding chickens this year! I'm super excited and the husband is on board! I grew up on a small farm with chickens and have fond memories! I hope we are successful! I wanted to buy 6 meat birds and 6 laying hens but I'm afraid that 12 might be a scary start (and city ordinance says no more than 6, just figured meat ones are only around for 9-12 weeks and I might be able to sneak by with it?!)

I'm planning on mail ordering my chicks since I know what breeds I want. Has anyone had any luck with that?

Does the city ordinance mention anything about the ages of the chickens? In our town we can only have six that are "6 months old or older", which allows for meat birds that wouldn't be kept until that age.

I ordered my Easter Eggers and Black Australorps from Cackle Hatchery in Missouri and had no problems whatsoever.

ISO- I am looking for some new chickens with "funny" features.. crests, beards, etc.. Close to Hardinsburg, Ky. I would like some Bantam sized and some Standard size, 1day-1week old chicks preferably. I need ones who lay white, dark chocolate, or blue/green eggs only. I would also need them as close to March 13th as possible, when the eggs in my bator should hatch. I would like to brood them all at the same time. :) These will just be pets, & to add a little something different to my existing flock.

Hi ! We live in Louisville and we have six Buff's. We have a stray chicken that has been hanging in our yard for the past few days. I believe its a brown leghorn. If you know anyone in St Matthews that may have a missing girl, please let me know !!

Louisville areas likely allow young birds as long as cockerels do not crow. One of the best breeders of rhode island reds in the country lived in the middle of town with his birds.
