Kentucky people

lol...They are a great couple...I was just in awe of how open their place is and not many predator problems...Although a kid(they think) from down the road stole a bunch of their chickens one day when they ran to town for something...He was lurking around watching the chickens earlier that day by their driveway. They get home and most were gone. Of course they left the naked neck...That thing is huge, mean looking, and ugly(to me). Probably why he didn't take her. That bird follows her hubby around like it's a dog, even gets under foot.

I also forgot to mention about them that her hubby has a hospital station in their garage to treat sick or injured birds, and one of the broody hens goes in there to lay and sit on her eggs on a shelf when she goes broody, and he has built a ladder for her to the spot where she sits, and he hand feeds her when she's in there...She's definitly not a dumb chicken she knows where the real handout is.

Oh, I forgot to tell you guys!!

I was feeding the chickies this afternoon, and of course the silkies were right there begging. Two of them are singing!!! Actually three were, but the other one is a roo almost certainly. It is about twice as big as the others, and just looks 'rooish'. So I may be getting silkie eggs myself!! I think there are 5 pullets and one roo of the white ones. What stinks about it is that the one that looks like a roo has a straight comb

But they are all pet quality, breeder quality at best. They don't have very good feathering on their middle toes. They do have feathering, just not much.

Ok, I will tomorrow. I have been letting her out of her pen during the day, and she usually hangs out in the barn, so I should be able to pretty easily.

So what do you think of my singing silkies? Pretty good sign huh?

Does anyone here raise cochins, ee's, and silkies?

I'm thinking forward to spring and I would like to buy the following:

5 Cochins (must be Blue, Mottled, Splash, or Barred.)

2 Partridge Silkies

3 EE's.

I would prefer to buy them as chicks. This is not a sure thing, but I was just seeing what would be out there. I was going to buy from a hatchery, but Ideal is the closest and they only do straight run. Does anyone here sex their chicks? How much do you offer them for? Do you ship?

I think it's really neat...My Partridge trilled at me when she was broody but never growled or pecked...Can't wait to hear them. About the barn by the way, did you want me to wrap it for you in the box it came in or do you want to check it out first?

I have some bantam cochins who have yet to begin laying. If they do lay, I want to hatch some out of their eggs, but I'll have extras, I'm sure. I've never mailed chicks, but the ones I have are a splash roo, a splash hen and black pullet.

I have three chicks that are 4 weeks old that I plan to breed when they get older. I believe I have a roo and two hens, there. I need to get pics of them. Those ones are large fowl cochins.

I only have one EE hen and no EE roo, my roo is an old english game (large fowl, not bantam)

Hopefully I can help on the cochins, though. Oh, and Bluedog420 lives over in Eastern Kentucky (Berea, I think) (not sure where Madisonville is) and he raises cochins - I got my black cochin pullet from him, indirectly through Cindy.

Did you check it and make sure it was all there? If I check it, I'll probably want to keep it out

You can do whichever. I still have to dig out my paper. I forgot about a WallE bedding set I bought for him, not like he has his own bed. Maybe I'll wait on that till he gets his own? IDK!!

I said the two were splash, when in fact they are Mottled - they are very pretty though.

I told him what I thought of the situation, and he agreed, said he'd been thinking about it forawhile. He won't say "I'm not moving to Michigan" but he keeps putting it off

I thought it was supposed to be warm this week? I hope it doesn't kill them! I got my jumbo eggs from pop57 today, those things are HUGE!! No wonder people buy the eggs for eating! They are almost as big as my black dutch hen's eggs! Monster quail eggs! I hope they hatch! If not, I might have to go see pop anyway, and talk him out of some birds
