Rosecombs are bantam...Don't know if they are mean, mine weren't...Had a trio of hatchery ones that I gave to the school librarian this Summer when I was in a downsizing mood. Too many roos, but didn't want to break up the trio so they got the girlys too.

Got the eggs off Eggbid...Black Rosecombs, then will probably get a mix of the blue and splash in the Spring from her. They are very elegant looking birds. Beautiful stature....You may have to find a place to build another breeding pen, I might have to hook you up with some next year.

Ugh! I need to make pens for the ones I have first! I still haven't figured out how I'm gonna do it, but I'm thinking I'll have two coops! At least two buildings, so I can move the bunnies out of dad's building, he keeps bi**hing about all the stinkies! What did he expect?

What about putting the run between the two buildings? With doors from both buildings leading into the run, as well as doors to the outside. That will save on the materials needed and you can always divide the run if necessary.

Ok, I am here, finally - hubby had the computer most of the day.

I have two babies, so far. No others have pipped, but tomorrow is day 21, so I'm not worried.

The first baby had been pipped for 24 hours, with not much advancement (zipped maybe a half inch), so I checked it out, and it had part of the membrane stuck so that it's wing was stuck to its head!! poor baby

, so I unstuck the wing and it came out ok. The second one pipped and hatched within about 6 hours or so. I upped the humidity to 70% and that helped the second one, I think. The first baby would have gotten out if it could have turned in the shell, but it was stuck tight.

They are the prettiest color of buff - sort of a silky looking golden color. They shine in the flashlight glow

Hubby was complaining about the smell tonight - I don't blame him, I'm having to clean brooders every day. I think I may go to town tomorrow and grab another waterer and another lamp (how many dang lamps have I got so far? 8?) so I can seperate the first chicks. I'm gonna put the cochins into a cage, and the other four into a cage, so it'll be easier to clean them up.

I'll probably put BC and the Jap baby into the playpen for a change - let them stretch out a bit for awhile. BC's head hits the top of that little cage when she stands up

But, Jon is off tomorrow, so I can work on that.

Oh, and those dang donkeys got into the coop again!!! They ate a full feeder of chicken feed, and almost trashed the waterer.

I was so mad, I told hubby either he fixes the problem, or I will. He doesn't want me using his tools without his watching
lau.gif
, so I said I wanted a fence built, 8 foot out from the coop doors, all the way down and coming back to the coop at the bottom - he can put a gate into the side of it to enter the pasture. He said ok - so next nice day we get, I'm getting a fence WOOHOO!!!!

Also, having it come out 8 foot, I can always put chicken wire on the fence and let the other chickens out into that little "pasture" on nice days. It'll be an 8x24 area.

I told Sam that Somerset had a half inch or so of slush (heard on the radio), and he was bummed, cause we got practically nothing here - just had some rain then some snow - not real snow, just flurries. So he has school tomorrow

Well, gonna catch up o all I've missed today....

Meri you need to borrow one of my 30x30 cages? They have stands and drop trays. I just have to spray them off as their dusty from being stored behind the main coop. I'd loan you both because they also stack but I have to use one for introducing some very iritated ladies Ms Lewis Rich sent me. One screams like a woman when you pick her up, literally no joking

ETA: I should have Cortni video when I pick the one mad lady up...It's hilarious. Gonna have to think of names for these three iritable girlys, any suggestion? One is buff, one black, and one white(Turken), I think she said the first two are bantam leghorns.

Ms. Lewis Rich :

Fr Chuck,
What kind of babies are ya getting? If they are day old chicks dont put them in with shavings they eat them at that age.
Will send bator after Xmas not waiting in lineLOL

I got the Assorted Standard Layer Pullet Assortment from Ideal.
They came today, and are supposed to be all pullets. They are so funny to watch and run around the brooder. And the colors range from pale yellow to black. There is even one that is a real reddish color.

Of course the dogs are PO'd at Daddy for not letting them play with the new squeeky toys. Two of them kept trying to jump up and look in the tank.

I think I'm good on cages. I did switch everyone around last night, and BC is so much happier

(hubby says when are ya coming after her

she poops a lot - I said she poops probably no more than the others, and he said "yeah, but it's BIG poop").

The cochins freaked at first, not to have Chickaboom to harrass them (they think that is normal
lau.gif
) but this morning they are all doing great. Funny, though - they can hear each other (on dif sides of the cage) and they keep standing by the cage wall and listening.

Ahh, My nativity set came, had to go see what the dogs were freaking out over. Fed Ex guy.

So far I still have the two babies, and no other action on those eggs. I don't know if I'll get any actionor not - I know 10 of them looked good right up til I stopped turning them. I guess we'll see, it is just day 21 on them, I may get some more.

The two I have, however, I had to remove and put into the brooder bin, because with the high humidity they weren't drying off!! Poor babies were just as wet this morning as they were when they hatched. I have the door shut to the room, though, so no drafts can get in. (nor the kitty)

Ok, gonna unwrap the nativity and make sure it is allgood -
meri

Man!! half the set is broken - not slightly broken, very broken - most fo the animals, and the angel's wing is off. One camel is broke right in half - the way she had it packed, I would think it would have been ok, but she had everything crammed into the creche - so maybe she foreced stuff in that shouldn't have gone in there.

The people are all ok, and the lambs - all other animals are broken and the angel, too.

Guess I'll go email her to see what can be done about it. I'm not paying full price if it's trashed - I am sure Fed Ex has insurance automatically on their stuff.

Ok, I emailed them, so I guess we'll see what they say.
The nativity is usable, it is just that I paid 23 bucks for it!! and to have so many peices broiken beyond repair is a bit ridiculous. I've been buying on ebay for years and have never had anything arrive so beaten up. They should have used a larger box, the creche barely fit into this one - it was their fault on packaging, although I was diplomatic in the first email and did not say so.

I'll just see what they have to say about it.
