Kentucky people

Ok question...what the heck does 'brood cocks' mean? I had someone reply to an add I had on bestfarmbuys.com, and wanted to see pics of the chicks I have. So I sent some, and he asked for pics of the 'brood cocks'?

Working nites sucks sometimes.

Thanks that is great I'll consider those names...You hit the nail on the head. Oh yeah, Layne went out and just picked the screamer up out of the box and guess what she doesn't do. No screaming, just settled into his arms...What's up with that? And Ms. Lewis Rich would totally understand this, he picked up the Naked neck to afterward, no complaints also just settled in...He even brought her to the basement where me and Cortni were and she didn't try to escape him. Ms Lewis Rich said she had the awfullest time trying to catch the NN to put in the shipping box, said she ran her all over the place.

Cindy,
The screamers sound like they are calming down!
I am waiting for a blk. Cochin egg to hatch today, the other two are adorable my first blacks.
2 of the Cochin hens are molting, no eggs, they just got over a molt, I think it was the screamers made them nervous!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im eggless .
My family just put in a bid to add 10 acres on to the farm, hey it has a double wide , a big room for you know what. And a small pond, I fell there when we looked at it this fall, might be a little too wild for me. Well will have to see if offer excepted, it was a bank foreclosure, might take a while.

We'll keep our fingers and toes crossed for you on the property...Can you believe how nice those birds are being for Layne? Wonder if that breeder had kids or grandkids that messed with them a lot.

We didn't know what to get Laynes buddy for Christmas...This is the kid that got us started into chickens... So I talked to Layne about giving him one of the girls. He agreed it would be a good idea, because that kid doesn't do a whole lot of hyperfocussing on any one thing other than chickens. So anyway, his grandma said she didn't want him to have the NN, she thinks they're ugly too, so Layne said he'd give him the black hen. Back to the NN, I think this one is actually very pretty, glad she didn't want Leighton to have it now. She is so soft.

Well, I found another potential person to take in my culls other than just the school librarian. Told the folks who knows the person that if the EE chick is a male, I would give it to the guy a long with my little Jap mixes, and that he would be plenty big enough to eat....Well, they said this guy doesn't eat them he just spoils them. Thats okay too. I think I'm going to keep the BLRW/Marans even if it's a male, then just breed him and the girls I hopefully will get out of these eggs you just sent. I have a feeling these will be some pretty birds, regardless of them being mixed...Then I'll be able to give folks their offspring for egg/meat birds.

Yeah I get some wierd ideas... Cindy

These are again from JMajors, whom I don't have to repay till spring

I got 7 that are surely pekin ducks, and 2 that are for sure chinese/pilgrim geese, and one that is not marked, and is in-between sized of the goose and duck eggs? I think it's a goose, but I guess I'll get to wait till it hatches (

) then see what it is!!

Well, my donkey deterent fence is up - not totally done, but done enough to keep them out. We'll finish it tomorrow, mainly needs a few more screws and to have the tops of the poles cut off.
It looks really nice, I'll have to get soem pics when ti is all done.

I'm just happy that they can't get to the coop anymore. The chickens must be happy, too, because they laid me two extra eggs today (besides what I had been getting per day). I looked in one time, when we were working on the fence, and I had three hens sitting in there in three nest boxes, and one waiting in line

Miss Celie didn't go in again tonight - until hubby went out to turn off lights for me, because I was on the phone.

he forgot that I had outside lights on the coop, and he was trying to get her to go in by waving his flashlight - like bringing in an airplane. She must have thought he was nuts, because she just clucked at him and stayed put, he said, so I went out and turned on the lights, and she went right in

Poor Jon still hasn't called me to come get him - he had to start work at 11:00 this morning - and he has been there ever since

- that'll teach him about the real world, I guess. He has the next two days off, though, so he can't complain. Plus, tomorrow evening is the Christmas Party there, so he gets to eat a lot of food and have fun.

Shelley, I think Monday is out, because I have to do something for a friend (or rather, Bruce has to help him move a stove up some stairs into his house.) But Tuesday ought to be good to go, if that's good for you. If Bruce doesn't do that thing until later in the day, Monday may still be ok for me, I'll let ya know. I'd rather do it monday, because Jon has it off (plus, I want to get the hens with Speckles as early as possible.)

Ya know, when I go get Adam, I am wondering if it would be easier just to go down the Parkway and take 65 up - would add a few miles on, but better roads, and faster to drive. I hate taking the backroads, going through all those tiny towns where ya have to slow down - plus if it is foggy, there's a lot of curves on the backroads.

Well, gonna go -
