She just started going broody yesterday, sat for a half day, til the wind finally drove her off the nest (she was nesting right across from the open doorway

dummy ) But today.... Oy!!! no way was she getting off that nest.

Oh, and don't forget I have your blue bin, so ya don't have to bring a cage for BC, unless ya want something smaller for her - we can put some fresh hay in there, and she'd have plenty of room to scratch to her heart's desire

. I may have to get me one of those bins for transporting inside the truck when it's icky out - I've used it a couple of times since ya left it here

For scratch I just throw out cracked and whole corn. I used to buy scratch, but they would pick out parts and leave parts, so I figured why give them that much option

Next summer I'm gonna plant some sunflowers and dry the heads and just throw in full heads to them to pick at next fall.

We have hay here (big round bales), but I had some orchard grass hay, square bale, had one bale left, I've been using to put into nest boxes and throw down for them to scratch in. It was free, part of a trade for some horses.

Corn has gone down a lot - was 6.50 a bag (50#) then down to 6.25, now is about 6 bucks even - all this within a couple of months.

Yeah, I had major goldfinch action on the thistles this summer.

I figured I would plant them alongside the main coop, by the water pump, so I have easy access to water.

I suppose if I wanted to be mean, I could ghetto them with hotwire, I have access to the fence right there.

I also have the area of the boy's place that shows from the road - it is behind my clothesline, so sort of public, but not overly public.

I'm already wondering how to do the garden next year, I'll have to put up a fence, but I'm wondering if I'll have to put up a high fence, cause if they want those veggies, the chickens will fly or jump over a shorter fence. I do have a box of wildflower seed I meant to throw out last summer, that I'll throw out this summer, and maybe that'll draw the wild birds attention away from the sunflowers. Maybe

wonder how long before they have it trashed...?

I do have the chicken corral that hubby wanted to plant grass seed in (yeah, right) I may as well throw the wildflower seed in there. It is already churned up mud - maybe come spring something will come up for a little while before they eat it down to nothing. Cheaper than grass seed, anyway, I already have the wildflower seed.

Thanks ESTPR13, for that tidbit of info, it would be interesting to try...I have some of those micro pads, I can just slip them in under a towel then cover the eggs with another towel. Meri, if you want I can try to bring these eggs to you, or I can just try to collect some of Sheilas she is laying about 3-4 days a week right now. not in any rhythm yet. I can also include the white Cochin bantams eggs if she lays any this week. Can't guarantee anything with hers since the Cochins are running with the rest of the flock til I get the ducks moved.

I can always go over there earlier in the week, I was just waiting for Layne to be out of school is why I said the weekend, so Shelley and Cris(sp?) can meet him. But we can come Wed or Thur after school. Maybe even tomorrow after 12 if the weather is too bad for school tomorrow, road'll be cleared by noon at least.
